This was a great trip. we arrived the Friday after thanksgiving and stayed until Monday. The lake front was stunning and we seen plenty of wildlife including a curious flying squirrel we named rocky.
“Trip to Spooner”
Great place. Quiet and very comfortable. Owner very responsive.
“Relaxing week at the lake”
This cabin near Spooner is everything the discription says and more! It's very clean and comfortable. There was plenty of space for 4 adults and a baby, with room to spare. It has a nice deck with a fire pit which we used every night while cooking dinner on the grill. There was plenty to do, from fishing, to canoeing, or playing tennis, and basketball, or just enjoying the beautiful view from the pier. We saw many deer, and 4 Bald eagles during our stay. The colors were changing while we were there too. Shopping is just a short drive to Spooner or Hayward. We would defiantly stay here again! Thank You Jay for a great rental
“Cozy Winter Lakeside Haven”
This cabin was just charming. Easy access with a remote feel The owner was awesome - very easy to work with. Family pride in history and ownership shines through the eccentric decor pieces strewn throughout, and written explanation "Chronicles of the Cabin". This home was perfect for a group of 5 of us travelling to participate in the nearby american Birkebeiner. I would say this cabin can comfortably accomodate 5-6 in winter, more in the summer with use of the downstairs area. A plus was 1)use of the basement/laundry room as our ski preparation workroom, 2) having access to a washer and dryer if needed, 3) plenty of games. Tv ( went unused) was in one bedroom. Plenty of cutlery, eating utensils, coffeemaker. One potential drawback (esp. in winter) is that the one shower is in the basement, with indoor access by spiral staircase - likely not easy for a large or mobility-challenged person. We enjoyed watching nuthatches, chickadees, bluejays and a pileated woodpecker from indoors and saw many deer tracks outdoors. Would love to see local wildlife there on a summer morning or evening. All in all, perfect for our group.
“Wonderful winter getaway!”
Our family of 10 (grandparents to grandchildren) stayed in the Lake McKinley cabin over winter break and had an absolutely wonderful vacation. We spent most of the week baking, playing on the ice and snow and relaxing in front of the fire. The cabin is cozy and very well maintained. We over packed by quite a lot. There are plenty of blankets and pillows between the cabin and the bunkhouse. We stayed in the unheated bunkhouse in negative temperatures with just blankets and the very powerful space heaters! Everything was very clean when we arrived. The kitchen is very well stocked. We had everything necessary to bake and more. The Spooner/Hayward area has plenty of shopping and restaurants. We had great coffee at Backroads Coffee and Tea and saw a couple movies out as well. Most of our time was spent at the cabin though. It is a peaceful, beautiful and relaxing place. We really enjoyed all of the personality that the cabin had. The stained glass windows especially added to the atmosphere. We stopped at the Leinenkugel Brewery in Chippewa Falls on our drive home and had a great time there as well. The only drawback is that there is no internet connection available but there is phone service and it was nice to be disconnected for the week. Overall, we really feel like we got lucky in finding the Lake McKinley cabin. We're hoping to stay there again soon!
The owner is very accommodating and provides all you'll need while there. The entire facility is very clean and instructions for the use of the facility are complete and easy to follow. There is a tennis/basketball court, a children's cabin on site. The cabin is quite private and quiet. There's a nice beach to swim from and a pier for fishing or just soaking up the sun. Fishing from the pier is almost too much fun, non-stop pan-fish. Most of all, though, we enjoyed the peace and quiet. There are nice touristy areas within a short drive but the cabin itself is secluded and well off the beaten path. It's beautiful. We look forward to next year!
“Beautiful cabin on a quiet lake”
The Cabin is wonderful! The lake is quiet and warm. We were close enough to town to run errands, and go on adventures, but we were far enough away to be in the woods. The kitchen was great, and stocked with high quality cookware, utensils, and serving peices. We rented the boat and took lots of rides along the lake. There was a lot of fishing too! My daughter caught over 60 sunnies from the dock!
“I don't remember a more relaxing vacation. Ever!”
My wife and I were impressed with everything about the Lake McKinley Cabin. The sounds and sights of nature were really something to appreciate, so peaceful and relaxing. A great cup of coffee on the dock early in the morning while catching pan fish and bass as fast as I could get my bait back in the water, nice! My wife even baited and took fish off (while wearing gloves...whatever) She'll tell you she caught bigger fish than I did. The cabin is so cozy and comfortable one can't help but feel at home. The history of the cabin is a very nice touch as well as the information about the local wildlife. (I could go on and on about the wildlife) My wife and I enjoyed the week by ourselves which was priceless but what a great place for kids, We didn't have a single problem with anything during our stay. All the information you need is provided even for the fishing boat we rented. The Spooner area in general is so beautiful and the people are so nice. I just wished we could have stayed longer. We hope to be back, maybe to see the fall colors next time. Thank you to the Rasmussens for sharing their cabin. Sincerely, Charlotte and Carey
“The perfect year-round home away from home”
Thank you so much for giving us the opportunity to stay in your cabin. The views of the lake from three sides of the cabin are amazing! We had a perfect Thanksgiving there, and it was absolutely comfortable and wonderful. We cooked everything from scratch and every possible kitchen item was available. There were 4 adults and our two young kids (4 and 6) and there was plenty of room for everyone. I hope that we'll be back again soon, especially when it's a little warmer so we can take advantage of the boats and the lake. We really enjoyed hiking on the "MLT” and spent a lot of time exploring outdoors. We'll be back soon!
“Wish We Lived There Year Round”
This cabin and setting made for the most wonderful, and relaxing vacation! We hunted and fished, played tennis, and enjoyed watching the wildlife. My personal favorite was the soaring of the eagles right in front of us as we stood on the deck and watched! The cabin was very cozy and comfortable--with fantastic beds and linens. The kitchen was very well equipped with quality dishes and doodads. When the oven on the stove stopped working, the owner had the caretaker go right out and find another stove to replace it right away! The locals were very friendly and helpful--some even let us hunt and fish on their property! There were tons of deer and grouse. Even saw a bear cross the road in front of us one evening at dusk. There was plenty to do--from sitting and reading a good book from the reading material provided--to watching a movie with the family--to taking a morning walk on the crisp fall mornings--this cabin was a blast! We loved the cabin in fall--the colors and sweet smelling air--and the sunrises and sunsets were incredible! Made us wish we lived there year round to enjoy all of the other seasons!
