Description

Gello is an ancient hamlet of nine stone houses and a church in the Upper Maremma region of Tuscany. Nestled among cypresses upon the top of a round hill, high on a flank of the Cecina Valley, it is a delightful place to holiday. In all directions there are views of utter tranquility and sublime beauty. On the western edge of this magical landscape there is even the occasional, distant glimpse of the sea. The coast, which is ten miles away, less than half an hour by car, is a succession of long sandy beaches, many fringed by woods of tall and shady umbrella pine.

Each of the Gello houses is well kept and fully equipped with everything for a pleasurable stay, has comfortable furnishing in keeping with the timeless, Tuscan, vernacular of its architecture. All but one are ancient structures. The one which had completely to be rebuilt, Casa delle Acque, was reconstructed in 2004 from its original materials and, while externally indistinguishable from the rest, now includes large kitchen-dining and living rooms.
