Description from owner

Description

Ash Cottage is one of three cottages set around a landscaped courtyard. The cottage sleeps two people in a king-sized bed and is ideal for singles or couples seeking a quiet retreat. There is plenty of off-road parking and guests are welcome to sit out in the courtyard or gardens.

The cottage kitchen is equipped with a cooker, microwave, fridge / freezer, kettle and toaster and washing machine. Drying facilities include a clothes maiden and a whirligig. The shower room is fitted with a standard-sized shower cubicle and has plenty of storage space for toiletries etc. A hair drier is available in the bedroom.

The lounge is furnished with two large settees which provide plenty of space to relax and stretch out to watch TV.

Wifi is available within the cottage but can occasionally be intermittent and the best telephone signal for this location is from Vodafone.

A selection of brochures for local places of interest are provided plus a map of Stranraer and the local area along with Guest Information and Safety Folders which provide instructions on how to operate items inside the cottage. The owners live on-site so are always on-hand should you require any help, advice or recommendations.

Response from the owner Thank you for taking the time to review our accommodation. However in light of your personal comments & detrimental remarks I will take this opportunity to set the record straight. It was your obvious self-important attitude upon arrival that set the tone for the rest of your visit. You made no attempt to say hello or introduce yourself, only deigning to ring us from your car outside our garden gate. Once ensconced in your cottage your subsequent numerous ill-mannered telephone messages demanding that we ‘bring you a hair drier’ were equally unpleasant especially as the website clearly states that this is not something that we provide. Despite your rudeness however we loaned you our spare hair drier but your discourteous manner & inability to say please or thank you was duly noted. It was unfortunate that the hot water switch chose to stop working the day after you arrived but very occasionally things go wrong without warning. We made every attempt to rectify the issue but the problem required the services of a qualified electrician & despite our best efforts we could not find one available until after your date of departure. That you were left without hot water for the ‘whole of your stay’ (a short 4-night break) is completely untrue. You only had to boil the kettle or fill the bathroom sink with hot water from the shower hose which is within easy reach. It is true that no apology was proffered & this was due to the unacceptable manner in which we were spoken to! There only issue with the washing machine was your lack of ability to interpret the instructions on the front panel. Had you done so correctly you would have found the machine to be in full working order. You were also offered use of a different machine – an offer which you declined! Both sets of steps to the car park are small & manageable. This was confirmed by your husband who very clearly stated that they did not present a problem for him with his walking stick. Had they done so you would have been invited to share the lower car park with our other guests. Finally, whilst the lounge window takes in the courtyard & surrounding fields Crailloch Croft is (as described on the website) a complex of three cottages. If a more desirable view was as high on your list of priorities as a hair drier then obviously more research into our properties should have been undertaken. Alternatively you could have gone elsewhere & paid more for the 5* accommodation you clearly expected for the price of what you rudely term ‘basic’! In summary not only were you the one guest so far this season not to have enjoyed their stay with us but you were by far the most unpleasant. Should you wish to be better received by hosts in the future I would strongly suggest that you avail yourself of some basic manners, improve your attitude & approach & learn how to speak to people with at least a modicum of respect.

“Peaceful location”

Reviewed 29 Aug 2021

Looking for a peaceful location for a getaway then Elm Cottage is ideal for this. Not far from the main town of Stranraer but far enough away to be able to chill out and relax in lovely surroundings. The location is also ideal for a base for exploring what this area of Scotland has to offer. We were not disappointed. Viv met us when we arrived and showed us around the cottage. Although we didn't need to, both she and her husband were available should we have required anything.
