Description

Built in 1793 this detached holiday property has been tastefully converted and featured on the Home Show. Set adjacent to the owners' home, its ground floor formerly housed cattle and the upper was the village Sunday school. This area of the Solway has beautiful beaches, especially Mossyard to the West and Sandyhills to the East. The area is renowned for coastal, hill and woodland walks, whilst horse riding, golf, fishing and bird watching are nearby, with watersports at Loch Ken. The Seven Stanes and National Cycle Network pass nearby for cyclists. Castle Douglas is a nearby traditional market town specialising in local produce, crafts, cafes and restaurants. Shops 2½ miles, pub 3 miles.

Response from the owner We pride ourselves in the high standard of accommodation that The Old Sunday School offers to our guests. We have maintained a 4.5+ star rating from our guests over the past 15 years which you will see from all of our reviews on line. We have never before had to add any additional charges to a guests stay, our clientele have always been respectful of our property as many have continued to return over the years. We did not think it was fair that we had to cover the cost for damages of the bannister or the extra deep cleaning bill for having to clean up bodily fluid. We reluctantly applied this charge, which the leader of the group gladly accepted and paid and also apologised profusely for not only the damages and mess that was left but also for the behaviour of some of the group after they had departed. Since this unfortunate event we have hosted many other guests through multiple booking providers who have all continued to give us a 5 star ratings. We are dedicated to providing a 5 star service to all guests at The Old Sunday School and will continue to do for the years to come.

Lovely house, peaceful country location, yet only a few miles from amenities and activities. Nice welcome from owner, then private and comfortable stay for a week. Would happily stay again.
