Description

Wet Room, Drying/Boot Room, Private Gated Parking, Enclosed Garden, 2 Toilets, Bike Store, Smart TV, Free WiFi, Log Burner... Perfect for an active outdoor pursuit holiday to a relaxing break and DOG FRIENDLY (£15 per dog). Perfect for your ALL YEAR getaway, with walking and mountain biking straight from the door.

Set against a magnificent historical mountain backdrop, in a quiet location with no passing traffic, this quarryman's cottage (c. 1840) is a great base for couples, family or friends. Superbly located for wonderful scenic walks, as a track leads directly from the garden onto the mountainside and provides walkers of all abilities with ample scope to explore the surrounding mountains with the abandoned slate mining communities, lakes and waterfalls to lower level trails around the historical town. It also benefits from private, gated parking at the rear of the property, in a large enclosure, a great bonus for off-loading & loading the car (ideal for children, dogs and bikes).

This home from home cottage is very comfortably furnished and well equipped throughout. The very spacious, beamed living room/dining room has a wonderful focal point - a lovely, original slate backed inglenook fireplace with a wood-burner stove, with 2 comfy sofas and armchair and dining for 4. The well equipped kitchen has a garden access and a wonderful, unique mountain view (including the famous zig-zag path and Oakley incline). There is also a ground floor wet room. Upstairs - 2 comfortable bedrooms - 1 double, 1 twin and also a separate toilet and hand basin - with a view to the zip wire and extreme mountain bike hill. The original slate outhouse has been renovated (for walkers, climbers, cavers and mountain bikers in mind) into a drying/boot room (with tumble dryer) kitted out with hooks and rails for climbing and caving equipment and can also be used for bike storage and a separate "Ty Bach" - outside toilet.

The private, enclosed slated garden, with a mountain view is a traditional cottage garden with a sitting out area and flower beds - ideal for coming home to after a long day out. Sit back and listen out for the "toot" of the Ffestiniog Railway or spot a raven soaring overhead from the mountainside.

Walking distance are Antur Stiniog, the extreme, world class, downhill mountain bike centre and the Llechwedd Slate Caverns complex - Zip World (including underground zip lines) Bounce Below, the slate cavern and quarry tours. In the other direction is the town with a good selection of shops, cafes and pubs and also the station terminus for the famous Ffestiniog Railway (down to Porthmadog) and the beautiful Conwy Line (up to Llandudno). Other mountain bike venues are a short drive away. To experience mine exploration Go Below offer thrilling underground adventures - if interested please ask me for more detailed information (we are a caving family too).

There is an abundance of activities for outdoor enthusiasts - hill walking, caving, rock climbing, kayaking, mountain biking, surfing, scrambling, fishing, horse riding and golf are all available, along with bird watching and even train spotting and llama trekking! All within an easy drive are Mount Snowdon, Betwys-Y-Coed, Portmeirion and Porthmadog. Along with a high concentration of castles, heritage steam railways and national trust properties and for sandy beaches The West Wales coastline, the Lleyn Peninsular and Anglesey. A great base for exploring the whole of North West Wales and beyond.

The cottage displays the gas landlords certificate, together with a carbon monoxide detector and smoke alarms.

The owner has a wealth of local knowledge and can assist/suggest with places to visit, local walks for all abilities, routes up all the various mountain ranges in Snowdonia including all routes up Snowdon (including the scramble routes) - as an experienced, keen, hill walker themselves. (However, all guests are fully responsible for their choice of walk - the owner can just advise. The owner is not accountable for fitness, ability, navigation, timings, clothing, food or choice).

“Perfect location for zip world”

Reviewed 26 May 2019

We booked the cottage for its location to zip world. It was a brilliant base to drive to the 3 different areas. It was great being able to just wander out and walk the dog in such a beautiful spot. Loved the welcoming touches of Welsh cakes and the pug was very happy with extra treats. The cottage was spotless, well equipped for everything we needed, and very cosy. The shower room is large and roomy with an excellent shower. A quick point to remember is the water is quite soft so don't make the mistake my wife did and use the amount of shampoo you would normally use in harder water areas!! We made use of the games that were left in the cottage. We were very lucky with the weather and made use of the bbq facilities. (Bring your own matches). We are planning to visit the area again and hopefully we will be able to book this delightful place once more.

“Real science fiction”

Reviewed 22 Mar 2019

There are no really words to describe the place there. The owner of the cottage looks like the most friendly person on the entire planet, very helpful, paying attention to every single little detail to make sure that your staying there will be a true adventure. Now the place itself....is you Enter through the front dor a world of beauty ans relaxation opens in front of your eyes. Is the perfect escape for anyone or anything... as soon as you open the back dor...the world of fantasy instantly starts to open in front of your eyes. A huge beautiful mountain stands just there... I’ll stop here...but honestly i can write an entire book in just few blinks of my eyes. It is absolutely wonderful, thank you very much Joanna for absolutely everything!

“Adequate”

Response from the owner Simply a bizarre review! Such a pity you didn't realise you had booked a "cosy" old miners cottage with all the traditional, endearing features expected from property of this age, you just needed to read the reviews to establish this fact and understand why it is so highly rated. It is so disappointing that you did not look at the very accurate photos nor read the detailed description to ascertain the features and amenities of the cottage. Many of your observations during your 3 night stay are inaccurate: The dining table easily seats 4, with 4 dining chairs provided (you just needed to open the other leaf out). There is nothing wrong with the radiator (so hot, I'm unable to place my hand on it). The cooker was sparkling clean. It is a wet room (as advertised), not a shower room and complies with trade standards with it's lovely raised pine flooring, so as to prevent slippage and provide excellent drainage. Didn't you observe the wonderful mountain view from the large kitchen windows? Or were you too busy counting the spotless pots and pans, neatly stacked in one drawer?! You only needed to look out of the bedroom windows to see the mountains and the surrounding cottages - all uniquely different in a little community. Décor and the comfort of the bed are personal preferences. However, you are the first to dislike both and the photos clearly depict the living room furnishings. We like to retain a traditional, characterful ambience in keeping with the age of the cottage. May I politely suggest you study the property listing next time to make an informed decision on whether it will satisfy your taste and suit your needs.
