Description from owner

Description

Casa Laura is set in the medieval village of Sillico, 700 metres above sea level in the Garfagnana valley. This spacious villa offers not only comfortable accommodation but spectacular panoramic views of the valley, Apuan Alps and Appeninne mountains.

The villa is our home for a proportion of the year and is decorated and furnished in a blend of modern and traditional styles. We want you to feel at home even when you are away.

The villa and swimming pool is for the sole use of the family or party that have booked it.

The Garfagnana has an enormous amount to offer anyone who enjoys the outdoors. Whether it's cycling and mountain biking, hiking, horse riding, canyoning, spending the day amoungst the trees on a rope course or crossing the valley on a slip wire. The areas' diverse natural enviroment is well suited to a wide range of outdoor activities.

We have always maintained a high level of cleanliness at Casa Laura but with the arrival of COVID19 we have adopted some permanent changes.  All kitchen surfaces and floors throughout the villa are cleaned using antibacterial products.  Antibacterial soap is provided.  Our linens and towels are washed in professional Miele machines at a high temperature with an antibacterial cycle.

Casa Laura's accommodation is divided over two floors. On the ground floor you have a lounge and study area complete with free WIFI unlimited internet access, a kitchen with dining area, bathroom and the twin bedroom.

The kitchen is spacious and well equipped with a five ring gas cooker and granite worktops and seating for 6.

Upstairs are two double bedrooms and a modern bathroom.

The large terrace is accessible from the first floor and provides a convivial area for al fresco dining and general relaxing.

The house also includes a wood burning pizza oven and off street parking for two cars.

If your holiday dates aren't being accepted by the system please contact me. I may be able to accommodate them.

The village benefits from having a combined popular restaurant, small shop and bar. There are well stocked supermarkets, independant shops, bars and a choice of restaurants a short drive away in Pieve Fosciana.

We live a short distance away and are on hand as much or as little as required. We always try to welcome our guests upon arrival and settle you in. Our reviews give an unbiased judgement and truthfull picture of our villa and the surrounding area.

A local tourist tax of 1 euro per person over the age of 14, for a max of 5 nights is payable upon arrival, in cash.

A perfect base to discover the popular destinations of Lucca, Barga, Pisa, Florence and Siena either by car or by train from Castelnuovo di Garfagnana. The Ferrari museum and race track at Maranello and the World Heritage site, Le Cinque Terra also make great days out. Seven walking paths start and finish in Sillico, enabling you enjoy, relax and emerse yourself in the natural beauty of the countryside. L'Orrido di Botri, a natural gorge and La Grotta del Vento are also worth a visit.

Further details indoors

Should heating be required we have a very efficient pellet stove. Pellets will be available and charged according to usage.

“Stunning”

Reviewed 15 Jul 2017

We have just returned after a wonderful time in this stunning villa. We are a family of four including a 21yr old daughter and 16yr old son. After driving up the long winding road which takes about 10-15 mins once you leave Pieve Fosciana we were greeted by Yvonne who welcomed us to her beautiful property. Our first piece of advice is a car is a must! As it is needed to explore the region. We enjoyed some nice lazy days basking in the sunshine with some of the most wonderful views we have witnessed. The weather was so nice that we were able to enjoy the pool on many occasions. The small village of Sillico has a very nice restaurant which is only yards away from the villa, and we would often spend time enjoying lengthy lunches and sipping the local wine. The staff and owners are so nice at the restaurant and even though their English and my Italian wasn't the best we still laughed and enjoyed the welcome they always gave. The pizza oven is fantastic, Yvonne sent us all the instructions to work the outdoor oven. Their is a small shop which is part inside the restaurant, plus a Coop in Pieve Fosciana. You do pass a larger super market when driving from the airport and if you plan to spend time in the villa cooking with the family it might be worth stopping off as you drive by. We drove over the Tuscan hills to Forte Dei Marmi to spend time at Versilla beach, which is described as the Cannes of Italy. If considering to do the same you will need to book into one of the beach clubs as there isn't any public areas. We managed to find one of the cheaper clubs and had a cabana for €50 for the day. We also visited Pisa and drove into the city. Car parking is easy and there is quite a few car parks near the tower and cathedral. You will need to book if you would like to climb the tower steps as time slots are given out. We also visited the zip line and climbing at Selva del Buffardello in San Romano which is great fun. The restaurant in Pieve Fosciana, Il Pozzo is worth a visit! Overall this property and area is simply stunning and would recommend it to everyone.

Response from the owner Thank you for taking the time to write a review. I'm glad Casa Laura and the surrounding area lived up to your expectations. The pizza oven isn't as easy to use as you would expect, so if your pizzas turned out well, well done.

“Excellent Villa in Totally Relaxing Surroundings”

Reviewed 12 Jun 2017

My wife and I and some friends wanted to get away from it all and this Villa totally met our requirements! It was in the village of Sillico about1.5 hours from Pisa airport by hire car and a very pleasant ride. The last 6kms or so are on a bendy road but the views from the villa were spectacular! There were five adults in our group. Our bedrooms were spacious as were the other rooms. The kitchen was enormous and had all the facilities we could wish for. The lounge had a TV and there was a huge selection of films to watch and loads of books, not that we got to watch any as the weather was so good! We loved that the house was remained totally "cool" during the hot weather and this applied to the bedrooms as well. It was up to you as to whether you kept the shutters open or closed. Outside there was a really good swimming pool and an authentic pizza oven, both of which we used. Our pizzas turned out superbly! Within the briefest of walks was the Village Restaurant and shop. We ate there mostly in the evenings and the food was locally sourced and cooked to perfection. The people were so friendly. We visited Florence for our main day out and then some local villages. The nearby weekly market is not to be missed. There were very good shopping facilities ten minutes away and the Prosecco and wine was amazingly cheap and good. The villa gave us everything we wished for - a week of real Tuscany in the most amazing setting. Yvonne, the owner, sent us really clear instructions on how to get to the villa and she met us there to explain everything we needed to know. She couldn't have been more helpful. I loved this place, as did the others. Can't wait to return!
