North Woods Private Lake Vacation Retreat!

We own and rent two cabins on Horseshoe Lake; a private 100+ acre crystal clear lake with hard sand bottom, lots of wildlife and beautiful birch and pines. Located on route 84 North between Pine River and Longville, the entrance to the cabins is a beautiful animal scenic, private wooded drive. You'll relax as soon as you turn on our road. Our cabins are totally clean housekeeping cabins with a private beach, boat launch, fish cleaning facility and fitness center. Our two cabins and 2 and 3 bedrooms respectfully with bath, fully stocked kitchen with full size appliances (gas stove), screened in porch, outdoor charcoal grill and picnic table. Use of fishing boat is included with cabin (motor rental available) plus life jackets, kayaks and paddle board, and children's sand toys at beach.

This cabin has two bedrooms (one Queen, one Full) and a pull out couch in the living area that would work well for children or young adults. Microwave, coffee maker, gas stove, refrigerator, grill are all included. The shelter has a TV/DVD and several games for rainy days. The cabin inside is pine and is furnished with "up north" accessories. Cabin also includes dishes and utensils, bath mat and outdoor garbage can and bags. Please bring your own bath and beach towels and food supplies. And, if you are traveling long distance by plane and need help with supplies, just contact us in advance to see how we might be able to help you.

If you care to eat out, there are several eating establishments within 10 miles of the cabins (Longville, Pequot Lakes, Pine River, Hackensack, Walker and more.) We are located about 30 miles north of Brainerd in the heart of Lake Country. Rainy day? No problem. There are two movie theaters, turtle races, antique, craft and boutique shopping. Brainerd has a fairly new zip line, mini golf, go carts and for the adult golfer, several courses in the area that welcome summer visitors.

Our swimming beach is perfect for young children who are learning to swim. It is hard sand, weed free with a gentle slope. The lake is private and has a small amount of boat traffic creating a peaceful and safe swimming environment. If you're into fishing, our lake has walleye, bass, bluegill, northern, and crappies. Kayaks and paddle board are available at not additional cost to guests and there are several walking trails and roads. Each cabin comes with a fishing boat and we rent gas and electric motors. We are nearby the Paul Bunyan bike and walking trail that stretches 123 miles from Bemidji to Brainerd, is one of the longest rail-trails in the country.

Getting around

You need a car to get to the cabins but often guests don't leave for the entire length of their stay choosing instead to relax, swim or fish and enjoy the property. If you do wish to go into town, car is the safest and easiest mode of transportation. Bike riding is possible, however route 84 is a very curvy road with no bike lane! The Paul Bunya trail is a mere 8 miles away.

Interaction with guest

Owners reside 2 miles north of the cabins and are readily available based on guest needs. We typically check in during a week stay to empty trash and check on the property but will come at guest's request!

House rules

Check in for weekly rental is Saturday after 3pm. Check out is before 9am on day of departure. Additional guests ( over 6) are charged an additional $20 per day per person.

Motor rental is $140 per week. Private boat launch is $30 per boat and boat must be checked prior to launch to ensure compliance with Minnesota invasive species procedures. Row boat, kayak, canoe and paddle board all available at no charge.
