Description from owner

Description

Gwalia Cottage is a 19th Century quarryman's cottage, just outside the famous slate town of Blaenau Ffestiniog, and within walking distance of Zip World and Bounce Below! Surrounded by breath-taking scenery, wonderful walks, steam trains( you can even hear the whistle blow from the garden!), castles to explore and glorious beaches to relax on, Gwalia Cottage will make an ideal base from which to explore spectacular Snowdonia!

The cottage sleeps up to 4 people in 2 Bedrooms: 1 Double with beams and a feature fireplace, and 1 Twin which has it's own shower area! The upstairs bathroom has a bath, separate shower cubicle, wash basin and toilet.

The living room has a feature fireplace, beams, 2 leather sofa's, WI-FI throughout, 32" TV. DVD player and a selection of DVD's to browse through. The cottage has HIVE central heating and is double glazed throughout.

The kitchen/dinner has everything you need including: oven, washing machine, tumble dryer, dishwasher, microwave, fridge/freezer, kettle and a toaster. The seating area takes in lovely views of the mountains and the famous slate quarries.

The steep garden at Gwalia has been imaginatively landscaped with trees and shrubs. Halfway up there is a seating area which takes in the wonderful mountain views! There is also a vey useful outhouse for storing your bikes safely and a outside tap for washing down those muddy wheels......or muddy dogs!!

2 dogs are welcome at our cottage. All we ask is that you bring their own bedding, towels and bowls. Please restrict them to downstairs only and please do not leave your pet unsupervised and could you please clean up after them on your departure.

Changeover days are Saturday to Saturday. Arrival time: 4.00pm. Departure: 10.00am. Shorter breaks can be considered during quieter periods.

All bed linen is provided but please bring your own towels. T-towels are provided.

Children are very welcome at Gwalia but due to the steep steps leading to the garden, we think that it might be unsuitable for children under the age of 5 years and for people with limited mobility.

Please note: There is on road parking. You can usually park quite easily opposite the cottage or there is parking along one of the side lanes. We tend to park ( after we have unloaded!) down by the side of the Touring Caravan Park which is less than a 2 minute walk from the cottage. There is also a free small car park opposite the Caravan Park too.

Please take care when crossing the main road.. The cottage is on a quite stretch of the A470, but we do have double glazing which minimises what road noise there is. Night time traffic noise is very low.

There are 5 steps leading up to the front door, directly from the road.. However, the cottage is set back from the main road by a small enclosed garden.

Getting around

We would recommend a car, just because there is so much to see in the area! but local transport is good. Why not catch the steam train, from the town of Blaenau Ffestiniog, and travel to the bustling town of Porthmadog? National trains also run from Blaenau Ffestiniog to London, Chester and Llandudno. Buses also run frequently from the town centre to Porthmadog and the surrounding area.

Interaction with guest

The key for Gwalia Cottage is in a key box on the right hand side of the porch. The code will be sent out to you the week before you arrive. There is a guest folder, inside the cottage, with information relating to local attractions, eating places, shopping and local amenities. Also in the folder you will find information on all the appliances in the cottage. Our contact details are also there, if you need to get hold of us.

“Perfect!”

Reviewed 18 Jul 2019

We stayed for four nights here and had a lovely time. We loved walking into the bits awaiting us which included bread, flapjack bits, a yummy cake (we polished that off quickly!) and some fresh milk. The house was clean and spacious. The evenings were lovely as there is a good sized tv and a log fire. The garden was spacious and it was all well enclosed which was great for our pooch. It’s in a perfect location as we could explore various places. We would definitely return again
