Description from manager

Description

Whatta location! Set right on the sea shore on a west coast Scottish Island and only a short drive (13 miles) from Oban with its extensive facilities and ferry services. Ardross is a spacious detached holiday cottage on the Isle of Seil, set in around an acre of garden, extending directly to the high water mark of the sea – kayak from garden! Glorious uninterrupted views, with ever changing light, extend over the sea to the hills beyond.

The cottage sleeps 6 people in 3 bedrooms (2 doubles and a twin). There is a large lounge, with open fire, directly leading to an expansive deck. View the abundant bird life and fishing boats in peace and privacy from either the lounge or deck. There is a well appointed kitchen opening onto a dining room – the sea can be viewed from both. There are 2 bathrooms, one ensuite.

The Isle of Seil is connected to the mainland by the historic “Bridge over the Atlantic”, so no need to catch a ferry, and Ardross is just over a mile from the bridge. Activities on Seil include walking (extensive shoreline and hills with marvellous views to the Mull mountains), fishing, sailing, kayaking, exploring wildlife, unique geology and archaeology, golfing and enjoying the pubs/restaurants and boat trips to Easdale and Luing Islands. Or just walk 10 minutes along the shore to the local shop for fresh bread, local produce and the papers.

Facilities:

In addition to central heating throughout, the lounge has an open coal fire.

All windows are double glazed.

A large picture patio door connects the lounge to the balcony for ease of access.

The bathrooms contain wc's, wash basins, bidet, bath and shower (with seat).

The kitchen has a double oven, dishwasher, fridge/freezer and a microwave. Please note that there is no washing machine available to guests.

Parking for at least three cars by the front door.

We do provide linen but you will be required to bring your own towels.

Please note that for health and safety reasons we are unable to provide Kayaks , you will need to hire or bring your own.

Free WiFi and FreeSat TV.

There is a local shop 10 minutes scenic walk along the shore (or 2 minutes by car).

Oban Tesco will deliver free when you spend £40 or more.

A doctors surgery is within walking distance.

Two quality local pubs are on the island, the Tigh an Truish at the "Bridge Over the Atlantic" and the Oyster Bar in the nearby village of Ellenabeich.

Location:

Just over a mile from the famous "Bridge over the Atlantic", build in 1790.

Enjoy a drink or meal at one of the two local pubs on the Island of Seil.

13 miles to Oban for full range of services and ferries.

2 miles to Luing Island ferry and 3 miles to Easdale Island ferry.

Golf course close to the local shop.

In addition to the large garden around the cottage with many interesting plants and features, there are open gardens to visit at Ellenabeich and Armaddy.

Ellenabeich, a conservation area village, has a heritage centre museum.

Walking direct from cottage - many routes including east and west seafronts with views to Mull – suitable for a range of abilities.

Kayaking direct from garden to other small islands such as Torsa, Luing or Shuna.

Birdwatching from windows/garden.

Otter and seal watching. The Island of Seil is sometimes misspelt as the Island of Seal, although it derives from the word seal so indicative of their abundance.

The film “Ring of Bright Water” about otters was partly filmed on Seil Island.

Various archaeological sites.

The island has great geological interest including slate with fools gold and high dolerite dykes that punctuate the coast.

Fishing, sailing and cycling all around the island and adjoining mainland.

* KAYAK IS NOT PART OF THE RENTAL

** YOU ARE REQUIRED TO BRING OWN TOWELS, WE ONLY PROVIDE BED LINEN

The owner would also like to make guests aware that from November 2019, new patio doors and an extra living room window will be installed in the property, enhancing views even further!

Response from the manager So pleased you enjoyed the house and the great view. The living room window double glaze seal has recently started to fail after 15 years, but it will replaced in October and the room redecorated, together with an additional new window to that room to maximize the views. We would love to welcome you back in the future!
