“Great time at King's Mountain Laurel” We are two adventurous Senior Adult couples who wanted to get away from it all for Thanksgiving. That's exactly what we found at this lovely cabin on top of this mountain, and the owner was warm and friendly. We were comfy, warm and the views from the porch was incredible! The driveway was a thrill and not for the faint of heart, but we had an experienced driver so we had no problems. Daniel's Steakhouse served a great Thanksgiving meal; Georgia Mountain Restruant had a great breakfast, and we shopped and explored the surrounding area on Friday...Don't miss Bell Mountain (another thrill) in Hiawassee, and Mark of the Potter in Clarksville. We loved our visit. THANKS, Cecil and June, for sharing your cabin with us.

“First real family vacation” The cabin is beautiful, very inviting and homely. Plenty of room for our family of 4. Had fun in the game room/basement. Close to North Carolina/Georgia border so you can visit either state. Scenery is beautiful and very quite. Even got a visit from the neighborhood dog, owner leaves dog biscuits in the cabinet for you to give him. Neighbors are friendly but don't come knocking. Just an all round great place!

“This was the nicest place we have ever rented by far!” We love the mountains and have vacationed there several times but have never been so pleasantly surprised by the rental as we were here. This cabin is absolutely the best! I was amazed at the way it was decorated. It felt like home from the minute we walked in the front door. We had the pleasure of a nice visit with the owner, who was very nice. The downstairs would be a perfect setting if you have young children. Being older, we enjoyed sitting on the porch and enjoying nature. We went to many shops In Blairsville and surrounding towns any enjoyed visiting with all the friendly folks. I can’t say enough good things about our week there! It was simply great and this cabin is the perfect place to stay. We will be staying there again as soon as possible.

Lakefront Mountain Cabin Near Atlanta Getaway!

Murphy log cabin

“We will be back!” We so enjoyed our stay at this lakefront cabin for the last two weeks of May, and were grateful we were able to bring our fur-kid, Daisy. She enjoyed swimming, fetching, and dock diving in the lake almost as much as we enjoyed watching her! So quiet and peaceful here, with a beautiful view of the lake from the front wall of windows. Comfy furniture, well-equipped kitchen, nice large deck, easy access to town - it was all we wanted and needed for our vacation. The weather was perfect for most of our stay, which we spent out on the deck or down by the water with friends we were visiting (they live in Murphy), and we were amazed so few people were out enjoying it on a long holiday weekend - we had the lake to ourselves much of the time! Phyllis and Pete were great hosts, and made sure we had everything we needed to make our stay perfect. We will definitely stay here again during our next trip to Murphy.

“A great cabin with an awesome view.” The Above the Clouds Retreat is truly a beautiful mountain cabin experience that you want to return to again and again. We have rented many cabins in the mountains over the years and I must say, this is the one we've enjoyed the most. The screen porch with very comfortable seating overlooking an awesome view of the Smokies is perfect for total relaxation. The cabin is beautifully decorated and has all of the amenities of home. Joanie is a great gal who truly cares about her cabin and does her utmost to provide a great vacation experience for her renters. We plan on returning as soon as our schedule will permit.

About Hiawassee

Whether you come here to relax or take part in outdoor activities, it’s easy to see why Hiawassee is a popular vacation destination.

Hunt down your mountain retreat or lakeside cabin in Hiawassee with FlipKey!

About Hiawassee

Located on the Hiawassee River and Lake Chatuge, Hiawassee’s name comes from the Cherokee word ‘ayhwasi’, meaning ‘meadow.’ It’s actually said that the city was named after a Native American Princess. The Southern Highlands Trail passes through here, and with a number of scenic waterfalls in the area for hiking, Hiawassee has become a popular spot for outdoors enthusiasts and those looking to escape Atlanta and other busy destinations.

Dine on southern BBQ and lobster mac and cheese in some of the coziest family-friendly restaurants around, with fast food options, cafés, diners and eateries to suit all budgets.

Renting a car is the best way to get around the area, especially if you’re planning on outdoor activities at nearby Chattahoochee-Oconee National Forest, just a short drive away – for the best deals, book car rental in advance and collect your vehicle at the airport on arrival.

What to do

Most activities in Hiawassee revolve around the great outdoors, with Lake Chatuge popular for swimming, fishing, jet skiing and boating as well as a range of other water sports. You’re close to Chattahoochee-Oconee National Forest, where you can spot wildlife including beavers and bobcats, enjoy a picnic or go hiking, fishing and camping. There are over 450 miles of trails here to explore, so pack your comfiest boots!

To relax, you could always head for Fred Hamilton Rhododendron Gardens. Opened in 1982, this is the only garden of its type in the region, and it’s at its most beautiful from April-May, when over 3,000 rhododendrons and azaleas are in bloom.

Head for The Georgia Mountain Fairgrounds, which host a variety of events throughout the year, including live music from international artists at Anderson Music Hall, the circus, and the Georgia Mountain Fair every Summer.

Top Hiawassee travel tips

The nearest airport to Hiawassee is Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, around 117 miles away. For domestic flights, Athens-Ben Epps is around 90 miles from Hiawassee.

For those looking to explore more of the local area, consider a day trip to a vineyard. At Hightower Creek, enjoy a guided tour and tasting before purchasing a few bottles (for yourself, or as gifts!)

The best time to visit has to be summer or from September-October, the local ‘Indian Summer’ when it’s still warm during the day and at night. July and August is hot and humid, whilst spring can be rainy.

From hiking and hunting to fishing and watersports, there are plenty of ways to stay active and have a fun-filled vacation in Hiawassee.

With dozens of lakeside cabins and cozy cottages to choose from, you’re sure to find the Hiawassee vacation rental of your dreams with FlipKey!

Restful

The cabin was nicely furnished and everything was clean. The bed was a king and very comfortable. We enjoyed the hot tub.The area was very quite. We were able to relax and get some much needed rest. The rising sun was beautiful. It was windy and cool so we enjoyed a fireplace one day. The cabin had everything that we needed. Hopefully we can stay another time in the future. The lady at check-in was very nice and very helpful. Thank you so much for a pleasant trip.see more
