Description from owner

Description

St. Mary's is a part converted 15th Century Church on the edge of the picturesque lake at Talyllyn. This historic building has an amazing Welsh oak roof structure and a Tudor painted ceiling. Many of the original features remain including the pulpit, the organ, font and many of the pews.

This stunning part of Snowdonia is famous for its beauty and is an area of Special Scientific Interest. The walk to the summit of Cadair Idris begins on your doorstep, and four miles down the road is the Talyllyn Railway which steams down the valley to Tywyn.

A holiday with a difference...

The ancient 2*listed Church was given a lifeline to safeguard its future when planning permission was granted ...we were able to create an area for comfortable living within its walls whilst retaining all it's original features...certain conditions set out by the National Park Authority meant that a non standard Eco toilet system had to be installed ...different but all compliant with 21st Century building regulations.....full imformation is provided and all questions answered ...

We are proud to say that St.Mary's has been given the TripAdvisor Certificates of Excellence for many years now ... this achievement being all down to so many brilliant reviews from our guests ...and we would like to say a big thankyou to those kind people who have taken time out to write of their experience here at Talyllyn ..

Why don't you come and visit us and enjoy the so different and peaceful ambience here at St.Mary's..

“Amazing location, with every comfort.”

Reviewed 25 Apr 2021

An unforgettable experience in a very special location. Very comfortable and well equipped. Read all about the fascinating history of the church and enjoy stunning views of Talyllyn lake. The king sized bed was very cosy and the shower was great. There was no problem with the compost loo. Peter ensured that everything needed was available and provided many extras. There were 20 or so beautiful oil lamps and many character features, amazing architecture from the 15th century and a lovely stained glass window. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay with a great bike ride from Arthog and a spectacular walk called The New Precipice Walk. Very special and unique.

“A stay to remember”

Reviewed 30 Aug 2020

We had a fantastic time in such a magnificent church. Waking up each morning up in the beams was stunning. All the old lamps create a lovely atmosphere, showing off the wonderful stained glass. We had a great time playing pool and darts, listening to music that sounds great in the church. The church was fun for our 5 year old, she had a fantastic time, even with an owl hooting in the graveyard and some wild weather! Warm and cosy in the living room, and the bedrooms are great, very comfy beds, lots of blankets, hot water bottles, TVs and dvd players. Lovely hot shower too! The views outside are magnificent over the lake to Cadair Idris. Peter is a great host, very helpful and welcoming. We would love to come back.
