Description
Ghillie's is a luxury self catering cottage. Situated just five miles from the charming village of Thornhill, it enjoys a south facing position in its own large enclosed garden. It is a quiet retreat set in the rolling Galloway hills, with a touch of elegance and style.
The cottage comfortably sleeps 6 people, with the option of 2 additional fold out beds to sleep a total of 8. The cottage is bright, spacious, warm and has been finished to a very high standard.
Relax in the cosy sitting room with comfortable seating, log-effect gas stove for instant heat, television and Wi-Fi (not super-fast).
Make the most of the superb local produce in the well equipped kitchen with new oven, hobs, full size fridge-freezer and dishwasher.
Enjoy quality time together at the dining area which sits up to 8 people.
The cottage also has a useful utility room with a sink, washing machine and tumble drier, perfect for muddy clothes after exploring the fantastic walks and trails at Drumlanrig Castle!
The cottage also has a handy downstairs shower room.
If you want to get away from it all, the luxury upstairs bathroom will not disappoint! With roll-top bath and large walk-in shower, you can even enjoy a view of the hills from your bath!
Conveniently the cottage has a large twin bedroom downstairs, with a large double bedroom and two single bedrooms upstairs. There are also two fold out beds for additional use if required.
Outside you will find a large, secure garden with woodland behind, perfect for little ones or dogs. Enjoy the wonderful, unspoiled views on the large patio area with outdoor furniture and brick built barbecue. And for cyclists or mountain bikers the secure outhouse with outdoor tap, is ideal.
The local area offers a host of activities including off road walks, cycle hire or mountain biking and fishing. Drumlanrig Castle and country estate is only a couple of miles away where you can take a castle tour, explore the lovely gardens and woodland or let the children loose in the excellent adventure playground. There is also a very good tea room for grown ups!
Thornhill and nearby Moniaive have some lovely cafes, restaurants and bars and many nice quirky shops to explore.
Come and enjoy the beautiful scenery of Dumfries and Galloway, it really is a hidden gem.

“A special place”
This was our first trip to Ghillie's Cottage and we certainly hope it won't be our last. The cottage is beautiful, immaculately presented and equipped with everything we (six adults, a 13-month baby and a dog) could have wanted for our family break. The location is stunning - so peaceful and relaxing with amazing views yet still an ideal base for exploring the surrounding area. We only wish we could have stayed longer!

“Never disappoints”

In most cases, you don’t pay a damage deposit up front. Instead, we save your payment details securely and you’re only charged in the event of damage to the property.
Occasionally, you will pay a damage deposit up front as part of the total rental cost. In this case, the owner has 10 days after you check out to report any damage. If they don’t, we’ll return your deposit. If their claim is successful, we’ll deduct the agreed cost and return the remainder.
