Description from owner

Description

1896 Historic Adobe building was a Bakery before it was artistically converted into a unique and stylish 2 bedroom, 2 bath home. Spacious (1700 sq/ft) with no 'germ laden' public or shared doors or spaces.

WHO SHOULD STAY IN THE BAKERY?

The traveler who appreciates unique, authentic spaces, but also values comfort and cleanliness. Who wants a quiet, private retreat in the middle of all the action.

Perfect for two couples, families with children over the age of 12, or multi generational relatives.

THE SPACE-

Lofty beam ceilings and exposed adobe brick. A huge great room, natural stone floors, beautiful old growth cedar doors and molding.

Luxury linens, quality glassware, new beds and sofas, a sprinkling of antiques, custom made furniture, original artwork, designer lighting with an industrial flair. Full kitchen, SS appliances, dishwasher, gas stove, gas grill, your own washer/dryer, WIFI internet, flat screen TV, coffee maker, microwave, ice maker, toaster, blender, cookware.

The first bedroom has a queen bed, second bedroom, adjacent to garden, has a gel memory foam topped king that can convert to 2 twins**. Basement den used to be a root cellar, and has a daybed for naps away from it all, but is not counted as a bedroom because of zoning. ( The window is not big enough for a fireman to fit through!)

Front bathroom has tub, second bathroom has low threshold shower and ADA sink. Both have new, elevated toilets and new shower fixtures. The two air conditioning/forced gas heat units were new in 2019.

A TYPICAL DAY

Breakfast in the warm Tucson sun, in your private enclosed garden courtyard. Linger over coffee under the Seville orange tree. Walk 3 blocks down to Tucson's oldest Yoga Studio for a morning class. Visit one of the nearby art galleries, museums. Stroll over to North 4th Ave for bohemian shopping and, of course, people watching. A short walk or streetcar ride brings you to the UA with its museums, arboretum, planetarium, and many cultural events. Lunch at one of the many award winning Mexican and Mexican fusion eateries. Back home again in your cool, quiet adobe fortress, browse the internet at the gathering table in the expansive light filled great room, while watching the bikes and pedestrians pass by your huge picture windows. The west window gives a perfect view of the brilliant pink and orange Tucson sunsets.

Invite your friends or colleagues over for drinks before strolling to the entertainment district for dinner and a streetcar to a UA basketball game.

If you are tired of dining out, you can bar-b-que on the natural gas grill in your private courtyard. The train passes by at just the right distance...the romantic rumbling evoking memories. It's a quiet neighborhood, with sidewalks and trees, but right on the edge of the vibrant Tucson downtown. People walk and cycle by. Because of the low humidity, the desert night sky is brilliant. (Which is why there are several observatories in the area.)

Response from the owner Thank you, Susan, for the nice review. You are so right about Tucson...It is really spread out, and it seems like I'm always driving to get somewhere. That is why we want to eventually move down there...go for days without getting in the car! Anyhow, I hope you do come back, and I'd love to have you and your friends spend more time at the Bakery'

Response from the owner Thank you so much, Mara. It's always a good feeling to hear that my guests had a good time. I'm so glad your daughter enjoyed her treat..I can just picture her. "You mean I can have it?" Growing up, my parents were "thrifty,'" so the hotel mini bar was strictly off limits. But one time, they let us have a coke from it. We felt like millionaires! I hope you do come back...soon, and often.

Response from the owner Thank you, Anne, for taking the time to write such a nice review. I do need to do something to make it more obvious that the Bakery is pretty spacious. Response from the owner I really enjoyed having you stay at the bakery. Hopefully we will be moved in by 2018, so hurry back. The photos you took of the house, the Desert Museum, and especially the "Boneyard" are excellent. I am going to update some of my photos with yours as soon as I can. (For those of you who do not know about Tucson's "Boneyard," it is the acres and acres of retired aircraft parked near the airforce base. They sit there, in the rust free environment of the desert, looking ready to take off. It is really hard to convey the sizes, shapes, and sheer volume in a photo, but Ian took some of the best pictures I've seen of the place.
