Santa Rosa, CAQuaint, Comfortable, pet freindly
Left on 10/27/2011 for a stay in March 2011
Stayed in this house with my friend and our dogs. Wonderful to find such a nice property that allows pets. They have owls perched in the palm tree in the back, such a treat to watch them fly in and out.
Easy short walk to the Sacramento river where the dogs played and splashed. Was a bit foggy so did not see many birds but did see egrets wading in the shallows. Restaurant close by to grab some coffee and hometown eats. So relaxing, wish we had more time. Basic TV, Wi-Fi, board games, an added touch.
Only a few hours drive just north east of San Francisco . We will be back soon.Response from Connie Cloak - 11/05/2011

So glad you and dogs enjoyed your stay! We recently hung a nest box in the palm tree for the barn owls, so maybe next time you come back there will be owletts! :-)

Sacramento, CaliforniaGreat house to stay at and then visit the National Wildlife Refu
Left on 10/26/2011 for a stay in January 2011
This is a very cozy home, and is located in a great spot, if you are a birder. It is surrounded by wildlife refuges. Colusa NWR is SW and the closest. North is the Sacramento NWR and Delevan NWR, NE is Gray Lodge Wildlife Refuge and NE is District 10, where the Tundra Swan winter. And you also have the Sutter Buttes. The Jay House is nicely appointed and very comfortable. We started to rent this home in 2009 and have made many return visits. There are improvements every time we return. We hope to be back this winter.

Mendocino, California, USAA great base for 8 of us birders
Left on 10/24/2011 for a stay in January 2011
We 4 couples stayed at Jay House as a base for 3 days of good birding. It was our second stay there. Clean & comfortable with good kitchen. We brought an extra air mattress since we outnumbered the beds. Colusa is a nice small river-side town with needed stores and a couple good restaurants, and it is centrally located for good birding locations west, north and east of there. We expect to return for a 3rd stay soon.
