“Island Living!” From the first cup of great Belizean coffee on the veranda each morning to falling asleep by the sound of rustling palm leaves, our 2 week stay at the tree house was extremely relaxing. We loved the long walks on the miles of sandy beaches, stopping for a lunch or drinks along the way. Every walk was a different adventure. During our first walk we met a local on bicycle selling fish and lobster tails. He then periodically came by the house with his fresh catch which we cooked on the grill. Eating fish that was caught only hours before is epicurean delight! Our arrival was made easy by armando who picked us up at San Pedro airport and transported us by boat to the tree house. Before boarding the boat, he took us to a supermarket where we bought our initial supplies. The ride on armando's boat through the mangroves and along the ambergris Caye was a wonderful introduction to the area. The house is well situated near a costal water taxi stop that took us to San Pedro for restaurants, shopping or ferries to Caye Caulker. It was also an easy and lovely walk along the beach to nearby restaurants, each affording us outdoor seating under the palms looking out at the reef, where we enjoyed the excellent local beer and food. Close by is Matte Grande, a surprisingly well stocked store where we purchased our food. The owners were very friendly, providing delivery right to the house as well as being a wealth of information about what to see and do. Don't miss the delicious weekend barbecue, right beside the store. The kayak at the house provided us with easy access to the nearby barrier reef for swimming and snorkeling. We went on an amazing snorkeling boat trip to Hoi Chan Canyons Marine Resort and Shark and Ray ally with Coral Reef Divers. Genie, the diver-owner and a neighbor, and his crew provide a wealth of information about marine life and local lore. But best of all, was experiencing relaxing island living. We will come back!

“Peaceful and calm oasis retreat” This was my fifth visit to Caye Caulker, first time staying in a private rental house as a solo traveler. Kim from Caye Caulker Rentals went above and beyond the entire stay to ensure it was comfortable and safe. Check-in was easy and included a taxi pickup from the airport, then back to the house. Maps and directions are provided, as well as recommendations for eating, shopping and daytime activities. I arrived with a nasty cold and Kim checked in on me, sending me to the pharmacy when I wasn't improving. If you're a solo traveler in central america this kind of oversight is appreciated. The house is made from Belizean hard wood and is beautiful and great for a couple. Steep stairs to the bedroom would not be safe for small children who can walk, but otherwise a great house for a family. The house is cool when windows are open with a breeze (no a/c), and shut up safely when closed. The grounds are clean and full of local flora, which invite lots of birds and geckos. You can hear geckos at night, otherwise extremely quiet. There is no tv, but there is a (sometimes flaky) wireless connection. There is a full kitchen but no spices, and I was able to cook a couple meals without issue. If you're with a group, this is a great entertaining house with built-in table and benches and a beautiful deck around the pool. The pool was refreshing, clean, relaxing and an easy way to cool off in the higher temp days without having to leave the property. Kim kept the pool sparkling with frequent morning cleaning. Location wise, you will want to get a bike as it is about a 5 minute ride from the village, but a long walk on a hot day. I appreciated the quiet but sometimes felt less safe going home alone after dark. Overall this is a beautiful place to get some rest and relaxation, allowing you to experience Caye Caulker on your own time and schedule.

“Amazing Place” I have stayed at Wataview on two different occasions- one week in February and one week in april. Incredible place. The staff and chef are above superior. Chef Sylvia has worked all over the world and her dishes are far superior to anywhere I've eaten with five star chefs. She is delightful and accommodating to any requests. The house has everything you could want for entertaining and enjoyment...beautifully decorated, great rooms, beds, supplies, support. I would highly recommend Wataview...it is beyond amazing- you'll love it.

“Amazing haven of tranquility and comfort” We split our Belize vacation into two - 5 days in the jungle river tubing, cave exploring, horseback riding, and visiting Mayan ruins - followed by 6 days of beach paradise at Casa Rana. It was perfectly timed as we were suitably tired and ready for relaxation by the time we got to ambergris. Diana welcomed us at the private dock and introduced us to the gorgeous house. It was even more beautiful than what the pictures indicate on the website. It was very spacious for just my husband and I but we loved having all the amenities of the house, including the very comfortable media room (with large DVD collection), amazing master bedroom with view over the sea, the very well-equipped kitchen, plunge pool, dining room with fantastic mood lighting, reading nook, and my very favorite - private dock where we could just sit and watch the dolphins, rays, and fish swim around. Diana has put so much love into building this house as you can see from all the little touches and special designs. It was very peaceful to wake up every day to our own little quiet haven where we could thoroughly enjoy the beauty of nature's creations in a luxurious setting. We enjoyed snorkeling at Hol Chan and Shark Ray alley (organized through White Sands Dive Shop), dinner at Portofino (they will do free pick up and drop off by boat), kayaking out for 5 minutes to Mexico Rocks and snorkeling there, and swimming around the dock to see Diana's little "aquarium" in the rocks around the dock. We bought groceries in San Pedro town right after landing at the airport and did another shopping trip in town during our stay but otherwise, enjoyed how secluded we were in a self-sufficient environment far away from the noise of town and large resorts. Both Richard and Diana were incredibly helpful and friendly while giving us as much privacy as we needed. Highly recommended for couples looking for a romantic getaway or families/groups looking for a high-end self-catering beach vacation.

About Belize Cayes

Belize Cayes, Belize

Home to the world’s second largest barrier reef, Belize is a diving hotspot with over 200 islands that are known as cayes.

From the popular northern Ambergris Caye and Caye Caulker to the remote Tobacco Caye, FlipKey has a portfolio of rental properties to suit all your needs.

About Belize Cayes

To understand the Belize Cayes you must first get to know the history of this former British Colony.

About the size of New Hampshire, Belize has one foot in the Central American Jungle and the other in the warm waters of the Caribbean.

With lots of opportunities, Belize is a traveler-friendly country where you can snorkel on the barrier reef one day before exploring Mayan ruins in the jungle the next.

The two main islands of the cayes are Ambergris Caye and Caye Caulker where you will find a small airport and a ferry connection to Belize City.

It is easy to fall under the spell of the cayes with their ramshackle housing, dirt streets and miles of unspoiled coral beaches. A favorite sign you will see just about sums it all up in a nutshell: “No Shirt, No Shoes…No Problem!”

What to do in Belize Cayes

Traditionally making their living from the sea by catching red snapper and spiny lobsters, the locals have embraced the tourist trade without spoiling the natural environment. You won’t find a single KFC, Burger King, or a McDonald’s anywhere, but you will find cold beer and delicious Latin American and Creole-inspired dishes that will have foodies smiling from ear to ear.

Water sports, diving and just relaxing in a hammock is what the cayes are all about. The 354ft. deep Blue Hole at Light House Reef is on most scuba divers’ bucket lists, yet a more rewarding experience can be found in the turquoise waters that surround Half Moon Caye.

The quality of fly fishing for Bonefish in the shallow flats is on a par with the Bahamas and, as you move into deeper waters away from the cayes, the chances of landing a billfish, tuna and wahoo increase.

Top travel tips for Belize Cayes

The best time to visit the Belize Cayes is between December and April. The rainy season is June to mid-November, with hurricanes possible between August and October.

Take the ferry from Belize city—it's much cheaper than flying and only takes 1 hour 15 minutes to San Pedro on Ambergris Caye.

Both the Belizean dollar and U.S. dollar are accepted in Belize, with the American currency worth twice that of the Belize. All change is given in local currency.

Take advantage of happy hour, when late afternoon most bars offer two drinks for the price of one.

If you are looking for the Caribbean the way it used to be before the big resorts and cruise ships took over, the Belize Cayes are for you. Choose FlipKey to find the best available properties on the cayes to suit any budget.

Luxury Poolside-Garden
Beautiful, relaxing and friendly

Had a very pleasant stay at Seven Seas, with the help of Roberto and Toni, who attended to our every need. Absolutely beautiful location, with everything near by and a gorgeous view of the ocean. The new owners are very friendly, and busy upgrading the property. We were lucky to be able to move into a newly renovated apartment on the ground level. It was the best vacation ever, and wouldn't hesitate to go back. Thank you Clint, Kim, Justin, Roberto and Toni.see more
Seaside Villas Second floor unit
We had the best vacation ever staying in Seaside Villas!

We stayed 7 days in unit 4 on the second floor. The condo was very clean and well equipped with the necessities! It is located in a prime spot close to the water taxi and walking distance of everything ! We didn't need to rent bikes or a golf cart we were able to walk everywhere we wanted. It had the prettiest view on the island I'm sure!!! The bed in the master slept better than our sleep number at home! The only complaint was the air conditioner in the master was really loud but it worked great so we didn't let it bother us. We regret we didn't stay10 days!! We plan to come back next year and hopefully get to stay here again. We enjoyed Southside Pizza ( I believe was the name of it) Michelle is the owner and we talked to her on the beach several times. Enjoy was a great place to eat and they cooked the fish we caught on our fishing trip. Rainbows was a very nice place to eat out on the water. Brisa Del Mar has a great breakfast as well as Island Magic. French Angels is a great fishing guide if you plan to go fishing or diving. Salvino Cob took us out and we caught more fish than I've ever caught before . Our trip to Caye Caulker was the most relaxing trip we've had thus far. Don't pack nice clothes; just take your swim suits and shorts because really... no shoes, no shirt, no problem! Enjoy your trip!see more
Adorable 1 bedroom condo on private beach! - Sunset Beach A3 - AC/WiFi/kayaks
Fantastic place to stay in San Pedro, Belize

We stayed at this condo for 6 nights at the end of april. We could not wish for a better place - spacious, nicely furnished, clean and with a well equipped kitchen. A small swimming pool is right in front of the building and 3 more steps and you are on the beach! This condo is everything you need to have a fabulous holiday on this island.see more
A3 Pool, beach, & sea outside your front door
peaceful beachside condo just a few miles south of San Pedro

As was the case throughout the entire planning process (and trip!), Barb responded lightning-fast to my inquiries with a plethora of advice. After careful consideration, we decided to split our vacation between Caye Caulker and Ambergris Caye (Sunset Beach Resort). We had a blast in both places and love, love, loved our time at Sunset Beach! We focused on scuba diving while on Caye Caulker. We had no trouble finding other things to do on Ambergris Caye- in fact, we could have easily spent more time “doing nothing” while we were at Sunset Beach (next time!). The resort is just far enough from town (~2.5 miles) that it feels secluded and peaceful. Yet it’s close enough that it’s a cinch to get into town whenever desired. The taxi service that works with Sunset Beach is quite convenient and reliable. Next time—when we stay for more that just a few nights—we’ll probably rent a golf cart (for the added convenience and also because they look like a ton of fun!). We did take the resort’s complimentary bikes into town one afternoon. It was easy and fun. There are so many activities to do on Ambergris Caye! Highlights include: snorkeling at the Hol Chan marine reserve, taking an evening tour with the American Crocodile Education Sanctuary, eating delicious food (enjoyed by both tourists and locals) at Caliente in San Pedro, and embarking on a day-long ATM cave tour on the Belize mainland (note: this was a very long but INCREDIBLE single-day journey). We also loved that Sunset Beach was only a ~10 minute walk along the beach to the local “Island Time” beach bar. They provided the perfect low-key venue to kick-off our New Year’s Eve celebration before we hopped in a cab to check out the action in San Pedro. We also learned the following morning that “Island Time” has pretty delicious breakfast (warning: portions are huge)! Looking back, there were many amenities at Sunset Beach that we wish we could have stayed longer to enjoy! Next time we will be sure to also cook in the incredibly well-stocked kitchen, lounge in the ocean-front hammocks, and take the complimentary kayaks out for a paddle. We can’t wait until our next visit!see more
BELIZE - CASA TORTUGA VILLA
A Bucket List Come True

Casa Tortuga was everything and more. Our group from Texas were blown away and kept thanking me for finding this beautiful villa and sharing this wonderful experience with them. Maria is your shining star. She is an incredible cook. The food and table presentation for every meal was outstanding. Everything was fresh and mouth watering delicious. Her assistants were very sweet and with the three of them, they kept Casa Tortuga in top shape. The grounds were just beautiful. They were well maintained and kept fresh for a new day of fun in the sun. Our group enjoyed all the wonderful tours that were available for us, snorkeling, fishing and the zip lining tours. The whole week was an incredible experience and one that none of us will ever forget. We all want to come back! A big Texas thank you for a trip of a lifetime.see more
A4 Bikes, kayaks, beach, pool & more!
Phenomenal staff, exceptional value, amazing property

My family (my husband, 13 year old and 2 year old daughters, my mom, and I) stayed 8 nights in condo A4. The unit suited our needs perfectly and had all of the amenities of home to make us comfortable. I would first like to mention that the staff of Sunset Beach have the best customer service of anywhere I have ever stayed (and I travel ALOT). Barbara was so helpful from the get-go with all of my tedious questions. I feel like I know her even though I never met her in person! Judy was so nice and made us feel at home when we arrived for check in. Chapin made sure our unit was ready for us when we arrived and even helped us open a coconut one evening! The views truly are amazing....you can see the reef from the second floor veranda! The downstairs porch was a nice setting for many lunches. We grilled our dinner out on the gas and charcoal grills and had dinner next to the sand under the covered bar area. There were several hammocks hanging from the mature coconut trees. Plenty of shade on the beach to not worry as much about the sun. My 2 year old enjoyed building sandcastles and digging for shells. The unit had some sand toys in a closet, so we borrowed that (and also used what we brought along). The swimming pool was always crystal clean (the caretaker, Chapin, does an amazing job on the property). The beach was raked daily of the Sargassum seaweed that seems to be plaguing the island. Although this grass can be beneficial to turtles, it also emits hydrogen sulfide if it washes up on the beach and is not cleaned up (decomposing Sargassum smells like raw sewage). Chapin seemed to be on the task of raking this up to keep the property looking and smelling as nice as possible. However, if you take a walk on the beach, you will see that this seaweed is a big problem. The gasses that it emits is not really a problem unless you have respiratory problems, are elderly, have babies or are pregnant. It is just really stinky. The palapa at the end of the wooden pier was nice for sitting and watching the boats go by. We also snorkeled around and under the deck and found some amazing creatures living under there! A moray eel, nurse shark, and many fish were hanging out in and around the area. We arranged for several excursions on our trip (Hol Chan/Shark Ray Alley snorkeling and several days of diving). The company we made arrangements with (Ramon's Village - also phenomenal) came and picked us up at the dock at no additional charge.see more
