Description from owner

Description

Situated on the edge of the beautiful village of Alstonefield within the Peak District National Park, The Old Shippon lies behind the owners' property, with extensive views in all directions and footpaths that begin as you step out of the front gate. In its earlier life, the cottage has been both an antique shop and a barn (a 'shippon' is an old English word for a cattle barn). Dating back to the mid-19c, it's now a cosy retreat, with a log-burner to create a relaxing atmosphere.

On arrival, guests are treated to a 'welcome pack' such as fresh scones, home-made jam and milk in the fridge. Some additional frozen and tinned food items are also available on an 'honesty box' basis. A basket of logs is supplied.

For walkers, Milldale and the much-loved stepping stones at Dovedale are nearby. There are several pubs within easy reach, all offering good food and real ales.

“Perfect week in the Peak District!”

Reviewed 25 Jul 2020

Out stay was perfect in every way, and we can’t recommend the old shippon enough! From the very warm welcome of local cakes and tea, to the absolutely adorably cozy, well appointed and immaculately clean cottage with everything you could need, to the endless stunning walking, cycling and running routes just outside your doorstep! We wanted an active but peaceful holiday and this exceeded my highest expectations. Audrey was very helpful throughout the booking process, answering my many questions, and also had very helpful suggestions for our stay once we arrived. We can’t wait to come back!
