Region: Northumberland is a heady combination of fishing villages, market towns, sandy beaches, magnificent castles and historic Hadrians Wall, tied together by beautiful countryside and abundant wildlife.

Town: Berwick is Englands most northerly town and changed hands 13 times whilst the English and the Scots fought for around 400 years for control of the Borders! The history is delightfully shown in the towns museum. Nowadays this small coastal town retains much of its charm, with quaint narrow streets enclosed within great Elizabethan walls, fortified with bastions, built against attacks in the 1500s and walks along these offer spectacular views over the coast and river estuary to Bamburgh Castle and Holy Island.

“Bright and Sunny House”

Reviewed 16 Jun 2019

An excellent location, close enough to walk to the high street shopping and in the other direction some lovely walks along the quay walls etc. Because the house stands on a corner, it benefits from the morning sun and also in the afternoon the sun shines through the bay windows. The heating system is very efficient and builds up to temperature quite quickly. It can be regulated via the manual electronic control unit in the hallway. A comfortable house with a lovely modern kitchen. We would definitely choose this property again. Excellent places to visit close by are: Low Newton-by-the-Sea and in the next village, at Newton-by-the-Sea, there is an excellent Gastro Pub, The Joiner's Arms where you can buy delicious food at a reasonable price. A day trip to Edinburgh on the train departing from the station in the High Street at Berwick upon Tweed also makes an interesting day out.
