“Can't wait to go back” I am a little behind on getting this review online. We stayed on Bateau Simpatico in the middle of May 2014. My husband and I had wanted to return to Paris for a week but not in a 5 star hotel as we had done with a tour company. A friend had stayed on this boat many years ago and told us it was the best vacation they ever had. They had taken their two sons before they were married and the four of them had a blast. She gave me the website and we booked our week a year in advance. We then asked our daughter and her husband to let us take our two oldest grandchildren out of school for a week for the trip at what we thought was the perfect time of the year. With permission from their high school we set off for Paris. We did it the easy way. We took a taxi from the airport right to the door of the boat. The kids went in first and the look on their faces when they came back to help us in was wonderful. Not one of us could believe the inside of the Bateau Simpatico. It is a work of expertise and love. The 825 square feet of space was more than adequate. The location on the Seine was spectacular. To sit up on deck with wine and cheese that Saturday evening was nothing but fun. We were taking photos of those on the boats passing by and they were taking photos of us. Each evening we had the light show on the Eifel Tower. The kids never tired of taking photo after photo each day of the week. Our budget was for 4 meals out which had to include escargot. Within a few blocks there are several grocery stores and particularly Picards (just frozen foods) where we stocked up on meals for the nights we dragged ourselves back to the boat at 10PM. In May the days are very long so you just keep going and going. Paris is on the same latitude of St. Johns Newfoundland. We bought tickets for the Batobus for two days. This enabled us to get to many of the sights on our list in a very comfortable way. The RER train was right behind us. It was convenient but so quiet we never noticed it from the boat. From there it was 25 minutes to Versailles. The metro was a block away which put the Arc de Triumphe a few minutes from our location. At night, the gentle rocking of the boat put us to sleep. Captain Bob has his own section of the boat and was available to answer any questions about the area. Because we worried that a taxi might not find us at 5AM on our Saturday departure, Captain Bob got up to bid us farewell and see us off. Now our younger grandchildren cannot wait for their turns to go to Paris with G&G as they call us.
