Description from owner

Description

Luxury 2 bed cottage with the most spectacular views of Cheddar Gorge from its own private balcony. Check out the photos! Located at the foot of Cheddar Gorge (but in an elevated position to take full advantage of the views) this pretty, stone built cottage could not be better situated to explore all that Cheddar (and the rest of Somerset) has to offer. It also has free Wifi.

Weekly booking are available during the peak summer season (June to September inclusive) and changeover day is Saturday. Short breaks may also be available (outside of the peak summer season) for a minimum of 3 x nights (please note that Friday - Sunday = weekend nightly pricing). Please enquire before booking for short breaks and also for prices at Christmas.

If you want to, you can just park up and leave the car as all of the cafes, tearooms, pubs and shops of Cheddar (as well as Cheddar caves and the Gorge itself) are within a few minutes walk. Axbridge village, with its pretty medieval square, is within walking distance too. (You will need a car or other form of private transport to travel further afield).

Bath, Bristol, Glastonbury and Taunton are just a short drive away, as is the picturesque Chew Valley and its surrounding villages.

Perfect for ramblers, cyclists, fishing enthusiasts (with Chew Valley lake and Blagdon lake nearby), bird watchers, rock climbers or photographers (the ever-changing scenery is fascinating) - or just relaxing in total comfort - Highcroft has all you need for a wonderful break from the norm. And do feel free to bring man's best friend! Up to 2 well-behaved dogs are welcome; with country walks starting just a stone's throw from the door, your doggy companions will be in heaven.

Sleeping 4 people, Highcroft will suit couples, small families (children must be over 12 years old, please) or a group of friends (of course, solo holidaymakers are very welcome too!) Please note however that, because of its elevated position, Highcroft is not suitable for those with limited mobility.

Downstairs, this lovely property has a modern sitting room (with comfortable sofa bed), a bright kitchen diner, an understairs storage cupboard and a cloakroom (toilet and hand-basin). Upstairs you will find 1 x double bedroom, 1 x single bedroom and a shower room. There is plenty of cupboard space to store your clothes and belongings. A lockable storage area for bikes etc is available outside.

Both the kitchen and the sitting room have french doors opening out onto the decked balcony where those stunning views over Cheddar Gorge will become apparent - there really is no better place to watch the sun popping up over the Mendips, first thing in the morning.

Highcroft also has its own private, enclosed, patio garden with waterfall and small pond - quite the nicest spot for a lazy lunch or to sit with a glass of wine (or three!) in the evenings.

Parking for one car is available on the owner's drive with on-street parking available a short walk away. The cottage has its own private pedestrian access.

“Car free Easter Break”

Reviewed 23 Apr 2022

If what you’re looking for is a short break where you can leave the car behind and do everything on foot, this a great base. The cottage is located at the foot of cheddar gorge and at the start of some lovely walks. Set in the grounds of the owners home it also felt like a safe place for us to leave the kids (16 and 11) for a couple of hours while we popped 5 minutes up the road to some lovely cheddar venues (La Rocca and On the Rocks being two of our favourites) - also close enough for the kids to pop into cheddar themselves to visit the amazing ice cream shop!!

“Highcroft cottage Cheddar Gorge”

Reviewed 24 Jul 2021

Enjoyed a a week in a lovely cottage. Andy and Helen were excellent hosts. Food essentials left for our arrival. Clean, comfortable, everything needed was there. Like a home from home. The garden and fish pond was beautiful, as was the view from the veranda.

“Beautiful, dog-friendly cottage, with stunning garden and views”

Reviewed 18 Jul 2021

Highcroft is an oasis of peace set in amazing gardens, with various outside seating areas, but only 2 minutes walk from shops and restaurants. It is comfortable and very well equipped, I couldn't think of anything which was missing, and a very generous welcome pack was provided. Andy and Helen were very welcoming and made it clear that we could contact them for any questions but also left us total privacy to relax and enjoy their beautiful cottage. Our dog could have the run of the garden which was 100% secure. There was a welcome pack of bowls, biscuits, blanket, poo bags etc for him too! Having said it is dog-friendly, the cottage was absolutely pristine and you would never know that any pets had been there. One thing which perhaps isn't made clear in the description is that there is an additional toilet, which is very useful when there are 4 people staying. We didn't want to leave! Thank you so much, Andy and Helen
