Description from owner

Description

First of all a few words about the virus

We are well aware that Covid 19 is going to affect your stay with us and that it will be sometime before we can get back to anything like normal. We have enhanced our cleaning regime. All hard surfaces in bathrooms and the kitchen are now sprayed with an approved disinfectant. All taps, door handles and light switches, as well as the controls for the appliances in the kitchen and the remote control for the television will be cleaned with an antibacterial wipe before your stay.

At the moment we have had no guidance about what we should be doing to safely run a self-catering holiday cottage. Until we do we have decided to have a gap of at least three days between groups of visitors. The hope is that we will be able to resume trading on the 4th July, but this is by no means certain. Should any further requirement emerge from the government we will keep you informed and comply with them as well as we can.

Your health and welfare is our top priority. As a temporary measure we have altered our cancellation policy. If any member of your group is unwell, for whatever reason, up to the time of your visit we will be happy to arrange form you to have a full refund, or a future booking if you prefer. We would urge you to let us know as soon as possible if anyone is unwell during your stay, so that we can secure arrangements for future guests.

Sadly many of the places to visit mentioned in our Welcome Pack will not be fully open this year and it might take us some time to realise which ones are open without you having to wait too long to get in. On the positive side there are miles and miles of footpaths on the South Downs and lots of quiet places where you can go and not have to think too much about Social Distancing. Most of the Pubs and Cafes have outside seating and hopefully will be able to get trading soon.

Bramley Cottage lies within Singleton a quiet village at the heart of the South Downs National Park close to Goodwood and Chichester. This comfortable and spacious cottage provides everything you need for a relaxing holiday and the opportunity to enjoy one of the most attractive gardens in the village. The mature cottage garden has been well tended over many years and our gardener calls in at least once a week

Recently renovated accommodation comprises 3 double bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, a large living room and open plan kitchen/diner with a conservatory and patios. The cottage is well equipped for 5 or 6 adults and families with children. There is ample parking and a utility room provides additional space which can be used for anything that is wet or carries dirt: Outdoor boots and clothes, pets and cycles overnight.

Getting around

Singleton is at the heart of the South Downs, 6 miles from both Chichester and Midhurst, and only a short drive from the coast. There is a regular bus service between Chichester and Midhurst with a number 60 bus every 30 minutes during the day. There is a railway station at Chichester, which is on the main route from London Victoria to Portsmouth and coastal line to Brighton. There is a faster service from London Waterloo to Haslemere a further 7 miles north of Midhurst.

Interaction with guest

Our names are Andy and Clive Norrell. We provide up to date information on places to visit, local pubs and restaurants. We are happy to answer any questions you may have before and during your visit. We do not live near the cottage, but do have contacts nearby who can help if the need arises. We tend to mainly use the back door of the cottage. There is a key safe behind the bins. Local pubs and tea rooms in 'the valley' villages of East Dean, Charlton, Singleton and West Dean serve excellent food, all within two miles, and you will be spoilt for choice when it comes to dining out in near by towns. There is a local shop within one mile at West Dean and a range of supermarkets at Chichester and Midhurst, both within six miles.

House rules

Access and Safety: Please note there is a step to negotiate when entering via the front porch, and when accessing the rear garden from the back door or conservatory with a step down from the raised patio where care needs to be taken. The river bank is planted with shrubs and plants and there is a boundary wall to the village road; but the river boundary is unfenced and the drive is not gated and children will need to be supervised when playing in the garden.

“Lovely Cottage”

Reviewed 31 Aug 2018

We had fantastic time at Bramley cottage. It had everything you would possibly need. Children loved the space in garden and apple tree. We made apple crumble together.(got all three of my kids involved). Washing machine,Drayer and dish washer are life saver when you have three children. We were lucky to see voles in the garden quite a few times. Overall it was memorable experience for all of us and we would love to visit back again.

“Superb Singleton Stay”

Reviewed 4 Jan 2018

The house is a fairly modern build with a traditional look and good garden. The owners could not have been more helpful in making our stay as enjoyable as possible and there were a number of nice touches that were very thoughtful and much appreciated. ( a cake, wine and Christmas tree) .. Comfortable bedrooms and 3 bathrooms, one en-suite, came in very handy for our party. The house seemed roomy and warm. Local walks around the vicinity were excellent...and there's a couple of local pubs to enjoy. We will definitely return for another stay.
