“Very spacious house for a large family gathering”

Reviewed 26 Oct 2019

We stayed at The Forge Cottage, Monday to Friday, and we were pleased with the size of the living space and the bedrooms. This cottage is a great location with lots of essentials in a short distance including an Aldi supermarket which meant we could shop when we arrived. This cottage is looking very dated in places and needs some TLC. One of the bedrooms we couldn’t find a light switch and the radiators had no thermostat or way to turn them off or on so that room was extremely hot. The en suite room has a stand alone bath with a shower over it. We prefer showers so queued to use the shower in a morning. There is only one door in to and out of the property but hammers were available at every window should we need to make an escape. The freezer was extremely frozen over inside and the markers on the dials of the oven and hob have all been washed off so we did have the oven on the wrong setting on the first night. The beds were comfortable with clean bedding, the towels provided were very thin but did the job. Terry provided an excellent information pack in email before we arrived which was super useful and there was also a copy of this inside the cottage. Although we didn’t meet Terry it was lovely to arrive at the cottage with the heating on, candles lit and cake and essentials provided too. We did have a lovely relaxing few days and some quality family time.

“3rd review from Clan Gathering :)”

Reviewed 21 Sep 2019

A long weekend for 6 brothers and 2 sisters, plus partners, pooch and 3 cousins who popped in on the Sunday. A very good time had by all, and yes, all 13 fitted into the lounge-dining room, filling 3 sofas, an armchair and a dining chair. Dining table seated 10 for massive Indian takeaway. Kitchen table is a good fit for 8 adults, with more spaces at the breakfast bar - next to the filter coffee machine . Well-adapted upstairs bedrooms and if 5 of our group hadn't been 6 foot tall, we could have sorted it so everyone slept well in the standard single and double beds. Nice big shared bathroom, though a light sleeper in the adjoining middle bedroom was kept awake by the automatic fan going off when people used the loo at night. Lots of cooking and washing up - big cooker and a dishwasher, plenty of pans, dishes, tea towels and washing-up liquid! Thank you Terry. My brother said you were lovely, and so helpful when he arrived. You have done a great job of making a 200 year old forge into a comfortable holiday space and your info file on the house and area was really useful.

“A great Clan Gathering”

Reviewed 17 Sep 2019

We booked months ago for a good price. Ten family members rocked up and we brought our pooch. Chinley is a lovely village surrounded by the beautiful hills at the edge of the Peaks. Local shops provided for our needs and the local pubs were very welcoming. The local curry house supplied a nice little feast. Good communication with our host. The cottage was well sized and we could all eat together in the kitchen and at the dining table. There was a full range of appliances. The rooms were clean and well furnished and I would recommend grabbing the master bedroom with the ensuite bathroom. There is only space for one car outside but there was plenty of convenient local parking. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and I would recommend Forge Cottage for a family get together or as the base for a walking holiday.
