Description

Property Description

----------------------------

Daisy Cottage is a 2 bedroom barn conversion. It is extremely well insulated keeping it cool in summer and warm in winter. The cottage faces south-west and so is in the sun for most of the day.

The ground floor provides a light and airy open-plan living area with a fitted kitchen, dining table and a lounge area with cosy wood burner. Full height windows extend the living space, opening out onto a south-facing patio and gravelled courtyard that provide the perfect suntrap from which to enjoy a morning cup of tea or al-fresco dining. The modern bathroom includes a shower over the bath and under floor heating.

Upstairs there are two comfortable bedrooms with exposed beams and stripped wood floors, reflecting the character of the original building. The master bedroom is equipped with a comfortable pine double bed chest of drawers and wardrobe with space for a travel cot, or full sized cot which can be supplied on request. There are far reaching views over the surrounding Devon countryside from the master bedroom. The second bedroom is equipped with two full size single divan beds, chest of drawers and wardrobe.

If you require additional accommodation for a second family etc. Buttercup Cottage is available next door which can be booked separately subject to availability.

Facilities and services

Bed linen and towels included. Electric heating and logs for wood burner included. Space for a cot for additional infant in the single bedroom - please request when booking if required. Highchair and stair gate also available on request. WiFi access available on site. THERE ARE NO HIDDEN EXTRAS

There is a children's play area with slide, swing, tree house and trampoline. Children are welcome to play on the large lawn shared with the owners.

Amenities

There is a mini market at the local garage at Wilmington stocking fresh milk and bread and a basic range of groceries. Also in Wilmington, there is a small farm shop and a thatched pub serving a range of local beers and good local food.

The market town of Honiton (4 miles) has a good range of local shops and a twice weekly street market. Similarly Axminster (7 miles), has a weekly market and boasts the Riverside Cottage shop. Colyton is a smaller town, with interesting little shops, including the award winning Colyton Butchers.

The entire area is rich with excellent country pubs, restaurants and coffee shops. We will be pleased to provide you with our recommendations.

The Roman city of Exeter with its beautiful cathedral and green, and Taunton, the county town of Somerset, are both approximately 18 miles distant. For shoppers, either of these offers a full range of High Street chain stores and individual shops.

Recreation

Daisy cottage is well situated for walkers with an excellent network of paths and tracks through the beautiful Devon countryside, many of which can be started from your own front door. The East Devon Way passes within a mile of the cottage, and the spectacular South West Coastal path is nearby. Slightly further afield, but within easy driving distance, are Dartmoor, Exmoor and the Blackdown Hills.

The coast is close at hand with the picturesque villages of Beer and Branscombe (6 miles), the Regency town of Sidmouth (12 miles), historic Lyme Regis (12 miles) and Seaton (6 miles).

At Colyton, there is the Seaton Tramway with vintage trams running to Seaton. Many other local attractions, gardens and National Trust properties are close at hand.

Getting around

Being a rural location, a car is recommended. If you do not have a car, it would be possible to get a taxi from either Honiton or Axminster station. You can buy Devon and Cornwall rover tickets for travel during your stay, but again you would need to take a taxi to the station. There is a regular bus service that passes along the A35 through Wilmington which is approximately a 1 mile walk. If you are on a walking holiday, then once you have arrived there are plenty of opportunities.

Interaction with guest

The owners are usually on hand to answer questions or resolve problems but make a point of not being intrusive on your holiday. When we are not at home we are contactable via email or mobile phone.

“Well presented, compact cottage.”

Reviewed 30 Dec 2017

Booked to spend a Christmas away from home with the kids hoping to be snowed in. Ideal base although, you might struggle if you planned to stay in all the time with the full occupancy. We were out every day to some extent. You will need a car and be happy to drive through “hollow ways” but plenty to do within easy reach. The owner, Tony, was on hand to help with the only issue we had(sticking lock) and helpfully sent on a jacket left behind by the kids. Definitely looking to book for the summer.

We enjoyed this cottage so much last year we decided to come back again this year! The cottage is very well equipped and our girls really enjoyed playing on the outside equipment. We love the fact that it's so peaceful surrounded by countryside yet still easily accessible to the main beaches like Sidmouth, Lyme Regis and Exmouth. We have had a lovely holiday abd hope to come back again.

“Lovely cottage in peaceful countryside location yet not far to the beach - Perfect getaway!”

Reviewed 24 Jun 2017

Peaceful location is down a typical Devon country lane with beaches a short drive away, and local village not far by car for provisions. The cottage is smart and well furnished, and had all that we needed, the beds are very comfortable. Devon scones on arrival and a warm welcome from Tony once settled in. We were lucky with the hot June weather, made a perfect break!
