Description from owner

Description

Lavender Cottage dates back nearly 200 years when it was built to house stonemasons from the local quarry. It has now been tastefully modernised whilst retaining its old world charm. It has a log fire in the lounge as well as modern central heating throughout. The bathroom, on the first floor next to the large double bedroom, has a shower as well as a full size bath. It is in the lovely village of Gastard in Wiltshire on the southern tip of the Cotswolds. It is 2 miles from the National Trust village of Lacock, film set for HARRY POTTER; tv's CRANFORD; and most recently Downton Abbey. 2 miles in the opposite direction lies the picturesque ancient town of Corsham where POLDARK was filmed and home to the fabulous Corsham Court, Elizabethan manor. World heritage site City of Bath is nearby as is Longleat Safari park; Cheddar Gorge and Wooky Hole caves; Stonehenge and Avebury circle. First class shopping is available in Bristol and Swindon which has the largest designer outlet in Europe.

“Cosy Base in Beautiful Wiltshire”

Reviewed 4 Nov 2016

We were looking for a long weekend stay in rural Wiltshire and Lavender Cottage fitted the bill perfectly. It's a great base for walking the many footpaths in the immediate area. Also, there are many pretty villages like Castle Coombe and Laycock (NT) to be explored that are just a short drive away. We found them well worth a visit. Bath, which is always good for a day trip is within 15 miles. We found some great pubs locally providing very good fare and as we visited in late October, the log burner in the Cottage was a real treat in the evenings. The Cottage is very easy to find and the owners helpful and friendly.
