Description

A traditional Lakeland stone cottage set high up in the fells above Ullswater. The ultimate peaceful place for complete stillness and silence.

Only the sounds of nature to nurture your soul set 350 meters above Matterdale in the very remote valley of Dowthwaite in the heart of the Lake District National Park.

Stunning views all around.. walk directly onto the fells and leave the car behind for the week.

The drive from the main road is stunning: narrow, twisty and with wide sensational views at every turn; you are in the quietest valley but still at 1,200 feet.

The cottage, like any well-loved family home, is crammed with original art, photographs, books, games, open fires and much else to excite young and old.

The kitchen is big, beamed and Aga-simmered, with wooden cupboards and plenty of all you need; a squishy sofa at one end next to an overflowing bookcase ensures whoever cooks will have company.

The original range is now an open fire in the long sitting room with contemporary sofa and dark red walls.

Lucy’s Wood Walk: You are welcome to walk in our private 25-acre wood. It’s easy to find. Go through the gate and turn left, follow footpath across the field to the next gate and you are now in the wood. It was planted 15 years ago. If you are quiet you will see roe deer here. The wood stretches up the hill to a barn where you will find a gate and path taking you further up the hill. There are paths cut throughout the wood and they will eventually lead you down to the Aira Beck with some excellent swimming pools.
