Description from owner

Description

The Old Hayloft is a perfect base for couples or families with small children wanting to explore Northumberland. This cozy two-bed self catering cottage converted from a former stable and hayloft is approximately one mile from the village of Elsdon, in the heart of Northumberland, and provides stunning views of the Northumberland countryside. It is located within close proximity of the wedding venues of Otterburn; Woodhill Hall, Le Petit Chateau and Otterburn Castle (2 1/2 miles from the village of Otterburn itself). Excellent walking and cycling is possible from the door and it is only a short drive to the market towns of Hexham, Alnwick and Morpeth, to Hadrian's Wall, to the Northumberland Coast and to Kielder Water. A well-stocked welcome guide aims to provide you with all the information you need for a thoroughly enjoyable stay in Northumberland.

Downstairs guests have their own private open plan living/eating/kitchen area with a bathroom off (this has a bath with shower over, sink, toilet, heated towel rail and underfoot heating). Upstairs the main bedroom has a king size bed whilst the smaller bedroom has a bunk-bed. (If you book for 2 people then we will assume that you only need us to make up the bed in the main bedroom. If the booking is for two, but you wish to use one of the bunk-beds as well as the bed in the main bedroom please book for 3 people and we will then ensure that both the main bed and the lower bunk in the second bedroom are made up).

When the property was converted in 2012 the owners aim was to try to minimise the property's impact on the environment, but not at the expense of comfort. The property has been carefully decorated using eco-friendly paints and wood oils, the property benefits from super-thick walls (6" plus of Northumberland stone together with insulation designed to ensure the property is cosy even in the snowiest of Northumberland winters), thermostatically controlled central heating, and a constant supply of hot water - helped by the solar water heater. Guests have their own off street parking space together with their own enclosed gravelled patio area, and patio furniture. With its separate secure bike storage/drying area, larger items such as bikes and push chairs can be stored safely out of the way until needed. All bed linen and towels are provided (washed in environmentally friendly washing liquid Ecover). Ecover handsoap, washing up liquid and clothes washing liquid are provided for guests use, and we also provide Faith in Nature organic shampoo, conditioner and shower gel in the bathroom.

The main supermarkets will deliver groceries to the property - and if you want to arrange a delivery time pre-arrival the owners are happy to assist - otherwise a small shop providing essential groceries can be found in Otterburn (approx. 2 miles away) and there is a café in Elsdon (1 1/4 miles).
