Description from owner

Description

Fully equipped and very unusual this one bedroom maisonette has been converted from a former London Shoemaker's workshop.

Bus (1 minute away) direct to Hyde Park Corner/top Constitution Hill, few mins walk to Buckingham Palace. Great Coronation stay for 4 people.

With newly installed Wi-Fi.

The open plan kitchen/Reception with dining table, sofa-bed and TV/DVD has a high ceiling, large feature bay window, solid wooden floor, decorative metalwork and old fashioned style school radiators all enhancing and reflecting its commercial origins. To enable maximum enjoyment out of your visit to London you will find here a good selection of information on attractions and transport.

A beautiful wooden staircase leads to a most attractive bedroom with double bed, custom made cupboards, exposed painted beams and roll-top bath. Also a small en-suite wet room with shower and basin.

There is a nearby Boris Bike hire station and direct transport links to Knightsbridge, Kensington (museums & Palace), Notting Hill, Hyde Park, Piccadilly & Oxford Street less than 1 minute away, including the new Routemaster buses. Transport to City of London, Houses of Parliament, Westminster Abbey and West End theatres approx. 5 mins away. Also close to Queenstown Road Battersea Rail Station (4 mins to Waterloo).and for day trips to such places as Hampton Court Palace, Windsor, Brighton and the South Coast.

A very convenient local store will meet most of your holiday needs and there are other local shops, supermarkets, PO. A pub, various restaurants and takeaways including one serving, in our opinion, some of the best Fish & Chips in London are within a five minute walk.

“Perfect little spot in London”

Reviewed 22 Aug 2023

This flat has a very convenient location for accessing Central London and trains in and out of the city. Susie is an excellent host and communicator. The kitchen space was great and fully stocked with cooking equipment. The sofa bed worked well for our kids while the bedroom downstairs with the large, comfortable bath tub, was perfect for our needs. We will stay at the Old Shoemaker’s Shop again if we return to London. Thanks for a great stay!

Response from the owner I really enjoy meeting guests at the beginning of their stay and it is always very gratifying to see the nice remarks people leave in my guest book or online about The Old Shoemaker's Shop. I don't often get to meet again afterwards so it way a pleasure to see you and your sons again on departure and learn how much you enjoyed your stay in London and at The Old Shoemaker's Shop. Hope to see you again. PS I know you found no problem with the sofa bed but have invested in new one for the New Year.

Response from the owner There was a young woman from Perth Who was desirous of a humbler berth But after Auld Reekie and the Grand Mine was more than she could stand The delivery of groceries was needed Oh dear if she could only have heeded My advice, on the very short skips and hops To the really good local shops But like my usual Miss nice guy I told her where she could online buy To them my phone number was passed Without me even being asked Good heaven, it’s ordered for between 6 and 7 (am!!) That first night the weather was stifling But my instructions to open the windows thought trifling The prospect was deemed far too frightening Whilst the rest of us just had to weep If due to the heat, much of London couldn’t sleep My tenant viewed it as a bare con That there was no air con Cor blimey, she complained of imaginary Flora or Fauna But she’s turned my place into a sauna Blissfully unaware of the unfolding drama Now I’m being accused of seeking to harm ‘er If only all could have remained so much calmer The beds were not to her liking The shape of the building she found less than striking She hated the layout inside And was critical of the type of linen, we in this country provide But although not at all keen She did at least point out - it is very clean Surely the arrival of the food Would lift and alter her mood One would have thought she should have been relieved Oh dear, the volume of 25 bags worth of shopping has to be seen to be believed My poor domestic fridge was maligned If I were it I would have resigned It was all too traumatic If only it could turn into a large Baumatic She was happy at the meet and greet But since even complains about the street I’m usually on hand To help and understand But this family gave me no quarter And that they really oughter Instead of allowing any chance For me, their experience to enhance They upped and left that day Contacting me for the first time as they went on their way And that was the end of their intended two week stay Too busy to contact me she said Well I’m sorry then, but you’ve made your own bed If you choose to up sticks and go it’s hardly a payment in kind To leave half of your 34 toilet rolls behind If alive were our dear Mr Priestley His inspector might think it just as beastly That a well off family today could still have such sway To do harm to that which is good, and betray The purpose of a review for revenge in that way Sorry Joanne but you’ll have to allow me a couple of inaccuracies in my first para here by way of artistic licence as you’ve used so many in your hit and run of a review. I think you were living in Sydney when you stayed with me and I know it was another 5 star not the Grand but this was so much easier to find a rhyme for.
