Description from owner

Description

John St is in the historic area of Bloomsbury, a quiet corner of Central London. You're in the heart of London but away from the crowds. Nearest tube stations are Russell Square (6 min walk) and Chancery Lane (7 mins), but you'll often find it as quick to walk to many of the main attractions.

The apartment occupies the top two floors of a Georgian house in Bloomsbury that was built in the 1790s. The apartment offers all the luxuries of a modern home, including a fully-equipped kitchen (washing machine for clothes, dishwasher, oven, hob, microwave, fridge/freezer plus lots of pots, pans and utensils for cooking), spacious living area, two bedrooms and bathroom with good shower, bath and underfloor heating.

The living room has two sofas which seat six plus a seat that can fold out into a sturdy, comfortable single bed. The TV has dozens of satellite channels, including Sky Sports. There is also a dvd player. Plus a bookshelf stuffed with books which feature London, guidebooks for London and maps of London for you to take out with you. We also have dvds, toys for young children and games.

Large windows with Georgian wooden shutters look out to the historic street below. The adjoining kitchen is spacious, well-equipped and has a dining table and six chairs.

A short, steep flight of stairs leads up to two bedrooms and a bathroom. The bathroom has a bath, separate power-shower, basin with mirror, toilet, underfloor heating and heated towel rail.

The large master bedroom has a king-size double bed and a single bed along with large wardrobe, feature mirror and Victorian chest of drawers (look in the top drawer for the hairdryer). The second bedroom has two single beds (adult sized) with Victorian chest of drawers, hanging space for clothes and mirror. Both bedrooms have 'black-out' blinds so that you are not woken by early morning sun. A cot (baby's crib) and highchair are available on request.

Bed linen and towels are included. A hairdryer, an iron and ironing board are provided.

Our wif-fi connection is fast (and free) throughout the apartment.

This is an ideal holiday home for a family or couples looking to explore London from a central base. It is a six minute walk from Russell Square tube station (subway) or Chancery Lane tube station. We will send you full directions when you book.

The apartment can sleep six people but with only one bathroom, it is best suited to a maximum of five adults.

Getting Here - Air: It is an easy journey from London Heathrow to John St, as the local tube (subway or underground) station runs directly to the airport. From there it's a 6 minute walk to the apartment. From other London airports (Gatwick, Stansted, Luton or City airports), you can take the train into the centre of London and make a short tube or taxi journey to the apartment. Let us know which airport you fly into and we will send you full directions when you book.

Getting Here - Rail: John St is a fifteen minute walk from the mainline stations, Kings Cross and St Pancras International where the Eurostar service for Paris, Lille, Brussels and Marseille now departs. Euston Station is a few minutes further away. It is a short bus ride from London Bridge and Waterloo stations. Paddington is a tube ride away.

No hidden extras: Price quoted includes VAT (sales tax), bed linen, towels, final cleaning and fast free wi-fi. There are no hidden extras to pay.

If you have any questions about the apartment, the local area or London generally, please get in touch by email or phone.

Getting around

The nearest tube (metro or subway) stations are Russell Square (Piccadilly line which runs direct to Heathrow Airport) and Chancery Lane (Central line). There are several bus routes running from the bus stop at the end of John Street. St Pancras International Station and Kings Cross Station are a 15-20 minute walk away or a short bus (routes 17, 45 or 46 from Grays Inn Road) or taxi ride. As it is only one stop on the tube, it is generally quicker to walk than take the tube.

Interaction with guest

I will send you directions to the apartment when you book. Please let me know at which of London's five airports or which station you arrive at. If you arrive during office hours, either I or one of my team will be in the building to meet you, show you upstairs to the apartment, hand over two sets of keys and answer any questions you might have. I have a key safe box if you arrive at the weekend or after 6pm. Our office is on the ground floor of the building and you can drop in to ask a question or report an issue at any time. I will not visit the apartment unless there is an urgent problem. There is a folder of local information inside the apartment which can be emailed to you before you arrive, if you would like to start planning.

“Spacious flat in good location.”

Reviewed 28 Nov 2021

Good user friendly flat where we felt at home and accessible to all that London offers with local shops nearby. Clean with good facilities only let down by the beds which could do with mattress toppers as they were not the best for comfortable sleeping.Otherwise a good stay.

Response from the owner Thank you for taking the time to review our Bloomsbury flat. It is a good point that if you stay in central London, you can largely avoid the tube (London's subway/metro) and walk or take buses. You do see more of London and you can really start to get to know this glorious city. Thanks again!

Response from the owner Following this review, we installed new kit to boost the wifi. Fast and free wifi is now available in every room of the building. London is 35 miles wide and while most of the attractions are in the centre, there is no one perfect district in which to stay where everything is within a 20 minute walk. Take, for example, London's four UNESCO World Heritage Sites; Greenwich in South East London is 9 miles from the Tower of London and Tower Bridge, which are a further 3 miles from Westminster (this apartment is in between Tower of London and Westminster) and it is yet another 8 miles out to South West London to see the fourth World Heritage Site at the Royal Botanic Gardens in Kew. This apartment is in Bloomsbury which is in zone one on the tube (subway/metro) map and is very much in central London. For possible future guests reading this review, I would ask that they consider other travellers who have described the apartment as being in a 'great location', 'well-located' and 'central'.
