“Tranquil pleasant cottage in picturesque surroundings.” Comfortable accommodation in quiet backwater.Plenty of walks in the fells and around the nearby reservoirs, and plenty of attractions in the district.Even the weather[including rain and snow] didn't detract from the pleasant holiday.

“Recreation, pure nature and millions of sheeps.” A nice and cosy cottage. Welcome-eggs. The cottage is small but enough for 2 adults. It is not easy to find if you are not from Great Britain. We missed the small road two times. But when we reached the "goal" it was, for us, typical English, nice and kind. We had a wonderful week with good weather and not so good weather. And I had never seen so much sheeps in my live.

“A fantastic cottage in a great location” The cottage is warm, spacious and well-presented. It has everything you could possibly need for a great holiday - stunning views, lots of wildlife, a well-equipped kitchen, a comfy bed and one of the best collections of Dvds and books we have come across. What's more, the location is second to none - on one hand you have the beautiful Yorkshire Dales, on the other there is the stunning Lake District. We also found a number of lovely local walks in and around Kirkby Stephen. In short, a walker's paradise! We will be back soon.

“Beautiful Surprise” After travelling up from Southampton, Hampshire, we arrived at 10.15pm on a wet November evening, weariness faded upon opening the door to Englewood, as reality was better than Sykes description. The kitchen is well equipped and a dinner party would be easy as there is plenty of cutlery crockery and serving dishes. The next morning we woke to the beautiful view from both back and front bedrooms, and the garden is delightful with a bubbling stream on the other side of the garden. Misty our dog loved it, would have loved to have a swim even more, but not suitable for that as stream flows over rocks. The open fire in the lounge made evenings so warm and cosy and the furniture is very comfortable and easily seats 6. Lots of literature gave us ideas for places to visit. The bed was the best we'd ever staying in, I have chronic back problems and dread new beds, I had perfect nights sleep from day one thank you. We loved the paintings by the owner around the cottage, wanted to sneak a couple home with us! Thank you we will be back.

“Very comfortable, goos location” Had a great week, we love the area and discovered some new walks and places to visit, The accomodation was very homely and the owners who lived next door, gave us a lot of information about the area. Would reccomend this cottage to anyone.

“Stunningly secluded, brilliant cottage” Where do I start? This was my second visit in six months and it felt like "coming home". Mrs. Scott (the owner) and her daughter keep their well-appointed cottage in excellent condition there's even a small collection of dvd's and board games should the weather turn nasty; I was there when the a1 was flooded for three days. Their welcome was as warm and friendly as before (the first time I was there I was even able to borrow a hairdryer as I'd forgotten mine!). The cottage is exactly as it's described, secluded. I went there to write in peace and found precisely that. The landlord and landlady at the local pub are great and the food is excellent - try the cheese platter - although it's a tad more than a five minute walk from Shepherd's Cottage. If you're into walking then this is the place to be; the sorrounding countryside is magnificent. What didn't I like? Having to leave.

“lots to do” This was an excellent place to stay, lots of places to eat and good food to buy. Lots of lovely places to visit. really enjoyed Bolton castle and trip on train as well as quiet days only gazing out at the moors. The army, god bless them for keeping us safe, were never a problem. They keep this area like it was 30 years ago, no development or houses built in the countryside. The house was warm, the beds comfortable, pub at Downholm had great food and was very busy, a must as was the Italian restaurant in Richmond. I loved the view of Walburn Hall. Most memorable, hope to return.

“Beautiful place!” We wanted a place in Dales that gave us some nice seclusion as we were coming from a huge city with major traffic jams. This cottage and surrounding area was just the place. It was beautiful and the cottage was very well equipped with whatever we needed. We will definitely go back.

GARDEN COTTAGE, pet friendly, character holiday cottage, with a garden in
Delightful cottage

We were made to feel welcome to Garden Cottage by the very helpful owner. The cottage is delightful and the area is lovely, not busy and not 'touristy'. Bar/Restaurant in village is excellent and would highly recommend. The enclosed garden is great for dogs as you can open the door and be sure they are safe to wander around. Would love to go back as we did enjoy itsee more
HURY LODGE, pet friendly, luxury holiday cottage, with a garden in Baldersdale
A cottage with the most fantastic view.

The cottage was well equipped and comfortable. We moved the dining table in the kitchen to take better advantage of the views over the reservoir and hillside. The lounge was comfortable and the bedroom was fine, except for the small doorway which is fine if you are under 5 feet tall. … see more

Wonderful walkers retreat

We took our three kids to this cottage for half-term. It was so cosy and had great accommodation. We walked up and down the Tees Valley way and railway, doing most of the Cleveland Way between Cauldron Snout and Barnard Castle. It was great to walk from the door. High and Low Force are great as is the Bowes Museum with its silver mechanical swan. The local pubs (Rose in in Mickleton and Rose and Crown in Romaldkirk) were wonderful. What a wonderful off the track spot. The hosts are very kind. We loved how quiet it was. We waited for clear nights for the amazing stars which was our only disappointment.see more
