“A lovely , well positioned little cottage .”

Reviewed 13 Sep 2021

My partner and myself were truly delighted with Elder Cottage, situated in the village of Mickleton . On arrival we were impressed with the standard of cleanliness and the generous welcome provisions provided by the owner. The rooms in the cottage are cosy , nicely furnished and had all we needed for our stay . The garden is very secluded and a lovely place to sit after a busy day. A couple of minutes walk away is the Kings Arms , a very nice pub with large gardens serving a good choice of well prepared food . A 10 min walk away is the Butchers Arms which is very much a local , friendly pub serving a limited range but substantial portions of pub food. A local post office has now closed down although there is a village shop with most things you might need . Also in the village is “The Pudding Club” at at The Halfway House but we chose not to visit this. There is much to visit and see in the area ....Bourton on Water is about a 25 min drive away . It is very popular and one should be aware that parking can be difficult . I would advise using the sports ground at £5 a day rather than the council run park which suffers from poorly functioning payment machines and toilets at a further £ 3 to use. Just strolling around Bourton is very pleasant and I would recommend visiting the Motor Museum and Birdland . There are far too many pretty villages and gardens to visit in the Cotswolds to mention here but it’s worth highlighting wonderful Hidcote gardens which are very near Mickleton. Close by again is Broadway , a very upmarket village and also Chipping Campden . Moreton In Marsh has a Tuesday street market and a nice , lively atmosphere . Winchcombe is nice little place with many small shops and cafes ....we wanted to see the “Winchcombe Meteorite “ In the local Museum but bizarrely it closes at 1 pm on weekdays . I can unreservedly recommend a stay at Elder Cottage .... you won’t be disappointed !!
