Description from owner

Description

Midsomer Cottage is Covid friendly, & offfers peace and tranquility, with lovely walks beside the River, and easy access to shops, and into the City.

Enjoy a stay in this delightfully refurbished, comfortable, and extended three bedroom Victorian cottage bordered by trees and singing birds, situated in a charming riverside village with easy access to the city. The accommodation is 4 star, stylish, popular, and quirky, providing very comfortable space for four people, or for six if you're comfortable with the safe but steep access to the third bedroom.

The village of Iffley is idyllic for a comfortable and relaxing stay in Oxford as it is on an easily accessible and frequent bus route into the city, is close to the river, and features a lovely old Norman church with a Piper window. You will be within a few minutes walk of a community village shop run by villagers, two hotels and two pubs serving good food. A park, a small gym, and a choice of supermarkets are within easy reach.

The city is a pleasant 30 minute walk along the river tow path, with your first stop perhaps being Christchurch College and meadows. Most of the colleges are open to the public, or you can pay a visit the Ashmolean and Pitt Rivers museums,The Sheldonian Library, or Blackwells Book Shop. Another option would be to take a guided walking tour, or ride on an open top bus, in order to familiarise yourselves with the dreaming spires of Oxford.

Restaurants in the city include Gees, The Old Parsonage, Quads, The Vaults, and The Trout, to name only a few of many. The Playhouse Theatre and the Pheonix Cinema in Jerico offer easily accessible entertainment.

Getting around

A feature of life in Oxford is an easy bus service to airports, a good train service, and plenty of taxis. Punts and Boats are available to hire. River boards welcome. However perhaps a bike will seem most appropriate once you see how many there are in regular use.

Interaction with guest

Our aim is for you to have a relaxed and enjoyable stay, and over the past ten years we've built a reputation for helping to facilitate just that! The manager Cheryl lives to the left of the cottage, and will aim to meet you when it's mutually convenient. We ask you to inform her of your likely arrival time in advance, and she will leave a key for you, and call to meet you at her earliest convenience. A Welcome Pack will include a bottle of wine + an Information folder. There are two Sainsburys nearby, Tesco, plus a Co-Op, plus the village shop (early closing Wednesdays). Our Virgin Media WiFi is excellent.

“Wonderful cottage for a fabulous weekend in Oxford”

Reviewed 13 Feb 2019

Four of us stayed in Midsomer Cottage for two nights for a family member's birthday. Arriving after a long drive on a freezing cold Friday evening, we were delighted to find that the heating and the lights were on and there was a lovely gift basket in the kitchen! The cottage was welcoming and cosy, with on street parking a doddle. The king size bed went down very well and it was great to have two washrooms so no fighting over bathrooms in a morning. On Saturday we walked into Oxford which was a pleasant 40 minute stroll, on Sunday we caught the bus from Iffley Turn which was very convenient. Our only regret was that we couldn't stay longer.
