“Ideal holiday home” Our family really enjoyed our holiday in this beautiful quiet location. The house is very well equiped, very comfortable. The Shield family very welcoming, local eating houses very good but suggest booking for wheatsheaf as it is very popular and dogs are welcome. We found lots to do and Keswick is not far to go. The only negative was that the third bedroom is small and would be better as a single room. We would certainly return and recommend it to others.

“Superb all year round holiday home” We have just enjoyed our second holiday at Southwaite Green - this time at Beckside to accommodate further family members. It is a luxurious, open plan, light and airy cottage, but with a warm and cosy feel provided by the easily controlled under floor heating. The bedrooms are very comfortable and all have their own beautiful en suites or bathroom. We ate in most of the time and found the kitchen extremely well equipped and easy to work in. We enjoyed eating in the dining area with its French doors on to a south facing patio overlooking stunning views. The patio is also a super place to eat or sit and relax on sunny days. Back indoors, however, there is a large cabinet for drying walking gear on wet days - so everything is catered for, including of course a really comfortable lounge to relax in at the end of the day. The site has been extensively planted with trees and shrubs. There are also picnic areas and viewing points – superb to watch the evening sun lighting up the mountains. The owner lives on the site and is always on hand if needed and happy to answer questions about her eco friendly holiday home project. Having stayed in the Windermere area in 2006 we found the Western side of the Lake Distinct much more peaceful and relaxing. Southwaite Green is in lovely surroundings and close to so many areas of outstanding natural beauty. It's a five minute drive to Cockermouth, a pretty town (even after the floods), with William Wordsworth's early childhood home. It also has a supermarket for those wishing to cook at home, but there are plenty of places to eat out. The larger town of Keswick is only about a 20 minute drive away. The whole holiday experience was excellent and it was good to be able to carry on recycling our rubbish whilst away. Our only regret was that we were too warm to light the wood burning stove!

Cockermouth cottage

“Memorable visit” Esther's Barn was immaculately clean and comfortable . Bedrooms and en-suites were spacious with bang up to date fixtures and fittings. Underfloor heating ensured cosy toes on the frosty mornings. The cottage and its surrounding development was well worthy of its five star rating. The cottage has stunning views and there are walks on the doorstep. Outside, the development has been the subject of a massive tree planting scheme and has other interesting features including a wildlife pond and raised beds. The coast, Munster Castle and National Trust property ie. Wordsworth House and Carlise Castle are all in striking distance and worthy of a visit. We will certainly return.

“Excellent cottage and great location” Stayed at Skiddaw for one week at the end of May 2014, the cottage was very clean, well equipped and comfortable. The plum bread and chocolate awaiting us on arrival was a nice touch. The grounds and views of the surrounding countryside at Southwaite Green are beautiful and it was ideal for the dogs. We have stayed in many cottages in the Lake District and this is definitely one of the best and hopefully we will return.

Buttermere
Traditional comforts combined with an eco lifestye.

A superb holiday cottage with traditional comforts flawlessly combined with a wonderful experience of what an eco friendly lifestyle could be like. On arrival Marna showed us the cottage and made us feel very welcome. Buttermere was very well equipped and luxuriously comfortable. We are not disabled but chose this cottage as there was parking immediately outside the door and there was a log burning stove. Neither of which actually mattered as the heating was super efficient and the parking for the other 3 cottages was quite acceptable. Having needed to stay in a disabled cottage in the past as a carer myself, I would not hesitate to bring someone who was disabled to Buttermere as it was very well equipped with plenty of room to get about in a wheel chair. Saying that the place is so beautifully furnished that you didn't feel that if was designed for disabled people. I had the best night's sleep in ages and the mattress was so comfortable I didn't want to get up in the morning. The air heating and draft proofing was so efficient that you didn't realise that it was cold until you opened the door to a burst of cold air and it didn't feel stuffy in anyway. You are encouraged to do your part in recycling wherever possible, which we did as we recycle at home but we didn't feel that we were pressurised into doing so. There is a lot going on in the grounds of Southwaite Green and the landscaping is in its infancy. It would be nice to return in a few years when the trees have grown and the pond has matured. We went to the village of Buttermere not too far from the complex. The scenery was beautiful and well worth a visit. Also Cockermouth is very picturesque and has a good variety of shops. If I had to choose what I liked best about the cottage it would be a tossup between the bed and the heating. I can't think what I liked least, probably that there was no internet access and certainly having to leave the bed there. I would definitely go back again.see more
Beckside
Luxury stay in beautiful surroundings

Southwaite green is a beautifully rennovated cluster of self catering units in a stunning location in the Lake District. Beckside cottage was the perfect location for a reunion of old friends over new year. The house is warm, comfortable and equipped with everything you could need. The owner Marna is helpful and friendly - we felt instantly at home. We'd recommend this place to anyone looking for a self catering stay in the Lakes!see more
