Description from owner

Description

River Birch log cabin, part of Willowbank Lodges, nestles in a small hamlet in the heart of the Pewsey Vale bordering the Kennet and Avon canal. The five luxury log cabins have been solidly built from Russian redwood and are situated in three and a half acres including a private lake and are surrounded by beautiful countryside and a wide variety of wildlife. River Birch cabin directly overlooks the lake and is one of the more private cabins and is ideal for a romantic break.

Bird lovers will enjoy watching the various families of waterfowl on the lake, including our indigenous pair of swans, herons and our kingfisher who flies up and down both the lake and the stream and can be seen sitting on the railings near the end cabin, Kingfisher, so named.

Ramblers and cyclists alike will enjoy the miles of walks straight from the cabin gates with panoramic views of the Pewsey Vale from Martinsell Hill and of course we are on the National 4 cycle trail. Our ancient Savernake Forest is only a 5 minute drive away and is quite stunningly beautiful whether you are walking, picnicking or cycling.

The cabins provide a superb holiday base from which to explore the ancient county of Wiltshire and are easily accessed from the M3 and M4. Furthermore, the airports of London Heathrow, Bristol, Southampton and Bournemouth are between one and one and a half hours drive away. The local village of Pewsey is less than two miles away and boasts a good supermarket, butcher, baker, petrol station, garage, Indian restaurant, cafes and pubs and it also has a railway station with a fast train service to London and the West Country.
No smoking is allowed in the cabins but can be enjoyed outside under the cover of the veranda.

Well behaved dogs welcome and verandas now have gates therefore secure for dogs and young children.

Flexible changeover days - see Conditions.

“Cosy, Quiet and Tranquil”

Reviewed 25 Mar 2020

We enjoyed a lovely and peaceful weekend at the lodge. It has everything you need and the interior and heating made it very cosy and warm whilst enjoying a birds eye view of the small lake. It's absolutely ideal if you want to get away from it all and enjoy some quiet time. Thank you Nicky for a great stay. We hope to come back again.

“A slice of heaven.”

Reviewed 3 Aug 2019

Wow. I had a wonderful four night stay at Willowbank Lodge, in the River Birch lodge. I spent most of my stay wondering whether the place could be any more perfect. There were a few niggles, soundproofing between the rooms could be better but the place was generally very peaceful and definitely very beautiful. I loved that my dogs were welcomed and we enjoyed many a walk around the lake, I loved watching the birdlife and at night there were small bats flying everywhere. It was amazing and I felt so lucky to be there. I went to work and I loved sitting on the porch with my laptop, trying not to get distracted by the birds on the lake, the view from inside was also wonderful. I got a lot done and felt like I had had a complete break from normal life. I didn't want to leave!!! The wifi was adequate, it wasn't the fastest but it didn't keep dropping out which is the main thing. Mobile reception was ok, 02 was a bit patchy but pretty good, Vodafone was great reception. The lodges have been done up really well, the bed was incredibly comfortable!

Response from the owner Thank you for your fantastic review. I had felt a bit embarrassed about the works going on with the lake as it looked so bare and muddy, but clearly your vision extended beyond that! When you return it should look lovely, with the grass restored and all the reeds gone. Thank you for leaving the cabin so clean and tidy and I very much look forward to seeing you both and the gorgeous Bronwyn at some stage in the future.

“The location is excellent, in front of the lake watching the ducks and the swans, very relaxing.”

Reviewed 9 Oct 2017

The cabin over looked the lake and was very relaxing. The cabin was the best we had stayed in, very clean, had everything we needed, very comfortable. Took our dog Molly and she too loved it. Our stay was to go walking and to relax, the weather wasn't great but we did manage to walk along the canal just a 5 min walk from the cabin. Nicky is a lovely host, very friendly and helpful. We will definitely stay again. Highly recommended.

Response from the owner Thank you very much for your lovely comments and I am so glad you enjoyed your stay here, despite the disappointing weather - we have all be waiting for that 'Indian Summer' but it just hasn't happened! I do remember your lovely Molly, we seemed to have had a lot of dogs that week and thankfully they all got on. My Wilf loves meeting all the guests and their canine friends. I look forward to seeing you both again sometime in the future.
