Description from manager

Description

A small, private, exclusive hamlet of five luxury stone cottages, known as Barnacre Cottages in fields surrounded by woodland in the Forest of Bowland, an area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

Woodpecker is a large, detached, spacious stone cottage which is inspected annually by the English Tourism Council and awarded the highest rating of 5* Gold. Mobility 1 assessed. Winners of many local and National awards.

From January 2019, the cottage is undergoing some changes. The huge family room is being altered to make 2 large en suite double bedrooms. The cottage will still sleep the same number of guests, 15, but will have the added benefit of 6 en suite bedrooms, and a small single bedroom.

Fabulous open plan lounge/kitchen/dining area. Mark Wilkinson 'Cooks' oak and hand painted kitchen. 4 oven Aga, dishwasher, microwave, fridge and freezer with ice and water dispenser.

Decked balcony area to the rear accessed from the french doors in the living area, with tables and chairs for outdoor dining.

Utility room WC, washing machine and tumble dryer.

Two ground floor en suite bedrooms, one king size double room and the other a family bedroom with a double and a single bed. Both rooms have large en suites with wet room type shower areas, particularly suitable for the less mobile.

Now, 2018, on the first floor is a huge family room with king bed and two full size single beds in an alcove, en suite bathroom with shower hose and fitted furniture. . One twin bedroom and one double bedroom with additional single bed with en suite shower rooms.

Small pretty single bedroom with fitted furniture.

All bedroom floors oak with rugs. Ground floor limestone with underfloor heating.

New from Easter 2012, was the addition of a large conservatory/garden room with stone fireplace and wood burning stove. The French doors lead out to an additional attractive stone flagged seating area with great views across the countryside to the coast and Lake District. An ideal place to catch the evening sunsets.

Situated down a quiet country lane, through a gate way, up a long driveway and in our own 14 acres of fields bordered by woodland.

Child friendly cottages and location. Childrens play area. All weather tennis court. Our own pet lambs in spring where guests are welcome to help with bottle feeding. Free ranging pet chickens and egg collecting. Fluff the pony who loves attention.

Great location for country walks and activities, pony trekking, fishing, shooting and visiting lots of attractions. Each cottage and our own website has lots of information about the facilities in our area.

We are resident owners with always a family member on had to offer assistance or information if required.

Just 1 hour from Manchester, Liverpool, the Lake District, a great base for visiting all parts of the north of England.

An ideal cottage for gatherings, groups of friends, families or 5 couples.

Response from the manager Hello again Mr Gardiner, as I explained to you in response to another negative review that you have posted. I was not actually at home or in possession of my laptop, when you telephoned. I was not aware at that time that you had made any bookings direct with ourselves, or anyone else. You booked the 3 en suite bedroomed 5* Gold Mole End cottage on the HomeAway website. You then discovered that the photo of the lovely large conservatory with the huge stone fireplace and wood burning stove, was of our 7 bedroomed 5* Gold Woodpecker cottage. There is no attempt to mislead anyone. In the 17 years we have advertised with HomeAway, this is the only occasion that someone has made a mistake of this kind. Although, you had provided HomeAway with your card details and other information, you then telephoned ourselves and asked me to 'cancel/reject' your booking. I advised, politely and respectfully, that as you had made the booking through HomeAway, you would have to contact HomeAway to cancel the booking. A simple telephone call would suffice. However, you were clearly very annoyed at your error, became offensive and continued to request that I reject/cancel the booking, so you then put the phone down on me. A few minutes later, I received a copy email to our mobile phone, saying that your booking has been cancelled. Obviously, you made the phone call. I would happily have cancelled the booking, had your booked direct with ourselves. It would have been a simple matter. However, had you also booked through our own website, all the cottages have individual listings showing lots of photos of the interiors and exteriors of each of the cottages and it is unlikely that you would have made the mistake that you did. As people can easily ascertain from other reviews, we pride ourselves in being helpful with information and providing great customer service prior to and during the guests stay. Your view of ourselves and the cottages, contradicts the opinion of everyone else. If you are unhappy in the way HomeAway advertises a group of cottages and feel that they misrepresent any properties, then your dispute is with them. Wherever possible, prior to making a booking, I would always recommend looking at the owners own website and giving them a phone call, just to clarify and discuss any details. This certainly helps to prevent any misunderstandings. . Had you actually come to stay in the 5*Gold Mole End, I am sure you would have enjoyed your time. It is a lovely spacious cottage, also with a fireplace and wood burning stove. We would also have made you and your family very welcome. I am sorry that you continue to be annoyed in regard to this matter.
