Would thoroughly recommend this rental if you want a clean and well furnished property in lovely surroundings. Tennis court and fire pit were added bonuses too.

Response from the manager Thank you for choosing us for your family gathering. We are pleased the you found the cottage comfortable and that you had a fine stay. That our location and facilities to be pleasant, safe for children and ideal for those people looking to get away to explore the Forest of Bowland. I actually on our travel directions, tell people to ignore their sat nav's when coming to us as some systems have expected guests to drive through the River Wyre, which is a River not a Ford! But also to drive past our gateway with the huge Barnacre Cottages sign ( and another sign in the wall with an arrow pointing the correct way through the gate ) but sends guests up another driveway marked PRIVATE into a neighbours courtyard! I am not sure as to why you found our directions not to be precise, but thankfully your Sat Nav did fetch you safely to us. The exterior of the Old Stables is very misleading and it is very much like a tardis inside, being so much bigger than guests expect - which is a good thing and better than disappointing guests. The cottage does have the standard 4ft 6 double beds as described on both the TripAdvisor and our own website. Two of our cottages, Woodpecker and Mole End, do have the 5ft king size beds and these are also listed on each of the individual cottages descriptions. In 2015 all the double and king size beds had their mattresses replaced with quality Hypnos mattresses which should enable guests to have a comfortable sleep. Four of our five luxury 5* Gold cottages have Aga stoves. They are the essence of country living along with woodburning stoves. There are 7 quality pans in the cottage of various sizes, including some very large ones. The milk pan does not have a lid and yes, one of the other lids is missing as it was accidentally broken by some guests. At our annual inspection by the Quality in Tourism Inspector, in order to retain our 5* Gold status, they rigorously inspect all aspects of the cottages including the kitchen equipment. Cheap pans, crockery, cutlery and glassware does not get you the 5* Gold standard, this applies to everything in the cottage, beds, bed linen, towels, curtains, carpets, sofas etc. The bathrooms in the Old Stables and Partridge cottages were totally refurbished 2 years ago. Mole End was refurbished December 2016 and the 2 ground floor en suites in Woodpecker, May 2017. Each year we carry out maintenance, updates and undertake any improvements which we feel will enhance the cottages for our guests. Plus, bath and shower rooms are another item which rates highly in importance with the Quality Inspectors. The Old Stables has 3 washing facilities, 2 shower rooms and a family bathroom to be shared between the 6 bedrooms. Our Piggeries cottage (sleeps 9 guests) has 4 en suite bedrooms, and Woodpecker (sleeps up to 15) has 6 bedrooms, 5 en suites, however there is a difference in price to reflect the different facilities offered. Many guests of the Old Stables when staying for a short break, are happy with the washing facilities offered and the cottage comes within their budget. It was a pleasure to meet you and your family. Hopefully you will come again sometime in the future and possibly you might try one of our other 5* Gold cottages.

Response from the manager I am pleased that you found our large 5* Gold Old Stables cottage to be fabulous and suitable for your group. Also that you were here to enjoy the warm, sunny weather we have been having the past few weeks. The 'slight negative' comment regarding noise from the motorway when the cottage windows are open was a surprise to read. We are located in an area designated as being an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, down a quiet country lane and up a long private driveway. On a hillside surrounded by fields and bordered by woodland. There are amazing views for miles across the countryside to the coast. The motorway is some distance and quite a few fields below us and away from our location. However, this morning I have asked the guests staying in the cottage at the moment if they have any concerns and also checked the visitors book for any similar comments and found none. The surrounding countryside is not silent, but it is pleasant to be woken by the dawn chorus of the variety of birds that we have here. We also have a resident owl which perches on the roof and regularly 'hoots' quite loudly. The numerous pheasants that live in the nearby woods are also surprisingly noisy some mornings. On bonfire night, 5th November and at midnight New Years Eve, standing at the top of our 7 acre field, we can hear and see the firework celebrations across the countryside for miles around and to the coast at Blackpool. Our website and Facebook pages have lots of photos and information regarding our location and the occupying wildlife. This is to help assist guests to ascertain if we are the type of property they require. We are also happy to discuss and clarify any details prior to a booking being made.

“Perfect place to spend time together, indoor and outdoor space brilliant.”

Reviewed 18 Apr 2014

The Old Stables were cosy, comfortable and spotlessly clean, with enough space for all the family to spread out. A great place if you want to relax and come and go as you please. The tennis court was a bonus, everyone joined in. The bottle of champagne was a lovely gift for my husband and Sue's home baked Victoria sponge, was enjoyed by all. We would all love to go back again.
