Description from owner

Description

'The Cowshed' was indeed historically a cowshed on what used to be a farm. In 2011, this Grade II listed building was fully renovated to be holiday-let accommodation. The cottage is ideal for guests wishing to be in close proximity to open countryside (1km by car, or 300m via public footpath), and for easy access to Manchester via rail link (half hour journey, every half hour). Please note: although still on the same site as the old farmhouse, the farm is no more, and the land has become urban development over the years; the property itself is not now in open countryside (see map/satellite view). Most visitors prefer to visit by car, and there is ample parking space both right in front of, or to the side of the property. The Cowshed has three rooms: bathroom, bedroom and lounge/diner/kitchen. The Cowshed is accessed via a barn door-type entrance, into the lounge/diner/kitchenette. The front of the cottage faces south - very pleasant on sunny days! The lounge area has a leather settee, a small TV/DVD, and a log burning stove/fire. A 'starter pack' of logs, lighter, and kindling is provided. A range of traditional table games are available. Please note: The Cowshed has no WiFi, but 4G is generally fine in the area. The kitchen area has a dining table with two chairs, and a range of cooking facilities. The bedroom is accessed via the lounge area, where there is a double bed.The bathroom is accessed via the bedroom; There is a sink, toilet, and a bath with an electric shower. Water is heated by an internal immersion heater. This is a well-insulated cottage, and it can be heated by the wood burner. There is also radiator central heating in winter, or on request at other times of the year.Guests have access to a small outside seating area within the turning circle. The owners provide tea, coffee, milk and sugar to welcome visitors to the property.Guests can access the property from 3pm on day of arrival, sometimes earlier but only by prior arrangement with the owners. The latest check-out time is 10am on the day of departure.

“Wonderful cosy cottage on the hillside”

Reviewed 27 Mar 2023

Really enjoyed my stay in the cowshed. Perfect for a writing retreat and within easy reach of the moors for some invigorating wilderness. The hosts could not have been more welcoming, making sure I was okay on arrival and departure and leaving me to my own devices through my stay! And even when my trip across didn't go to plan they were wonderfully understanding and went the the extra mile to make sure I could still have an enjoyable stay. I look forward to going back again. Highly recommended.

“Ideal base for couple touring the area.”

Reviewed 14 Nov 2021

The Cowshed is small but ideal for a couple and has everything you would need for a short break. The hosts are very friendly and helpful. The Beehive along the road is definitely worth a visit. Excellent Thai menu and a wide range of gins, whisky and beers to suit all drinkers.

“Incredible”

Reviewed 27 Aug 2021

Cannot recommend this place enough. Andrew and Wendy were there on arrival to meet us, whilst although giving us our privacy, they were on hand to help if we needed anything. They also left us a bottle of Prosecco which was a lovely touch. The photos do not give the cowshed justice, its a cosy place that just felt like home. I can't recommend it enough. Only downside of the entire trip was that we didn't stay longer, as there is so much to explore within Glossop, yet we ended up spending more time inside the cowshed.

“Lovely get away”

Reviewed 2 Jan 2021

From the moment we enquired about booking Wendy and Andrew were superb and responded instantly. Lovely location as can walk into Glossop. We were a little worried about the cowshed being a bit cold as it was Dec and snow on the way. It couldn’t be more cosier it was lovely and warm with a log burner if you needed it. We will visit again . Thank you Wendy and Andrew
