“Poor standards, lovely place.”

Reviewed 20 Sep 2021

For us, the location was very good; very quiet with a few trains, and countryside sounds which is to be expected. Pretty, compact gardens to relax in. However, we arrived late in the afternoon after travelling all day and were surprised at the lack of a Welcome pack. The next day, after a good rest, it became clear that the place fell below its own Covid-safe standards, e.g. the bin in the kitchen had not been emptied or cleaned, there was a lot of hair in the bath, there were no mattress or pillow protectors, there was an open jar of coffee and an opened box of instant coffee sachets. Pot pourri and an odd assortment of local paperswere in the house.Personal effects were found in a drawer in the main bedroom, the place was dusty, untidy, and dirty drinking glasses were in the kitchen cupboard. The bathroom door had no lock, the upstairs landing light had no bulb. There were no bin bags or laundry bags left, or hand towels for the kitchen and bathrooms. And to cap it all, we came home one day to find the place open and a stranger inside; this turned out to be an electrician who had come to mend a broken fire alarm and replace batteries in a smoke alarm. We had not been informed. None of the above should have been allowed.

Response from the owner Thank you. As you know from our conversations at the time, we were very disappointed with the state you found the house in. This was entirely due to a poorly performing cleaner who was immediately replaced. In five years of renting out the house we have never had a situation like this and haven’t had any similar situations since. As soon as you alerted us to the situation, we immediately instructed a cleaner to come in. We pride ourselves on the cleanliness and condition of the property, which is often positively commented on in reviews, which is why I was so upset to be let down by a cleaner in this instance.
