Description from owner

Description

Cross View is an attractive, comfortably modernised cottage, which accommodates up to 6 people. It is an 18th century stone cottage, with beams and an open fire - traditional but not twee. It comprises a spacious lounge-dining room, well-equipped kitchen-breakfast room, two large bedrooms, bathroom, conservatory and garden.

We particularly welcome families, pets and walkers and have Visit England accreditation Pets Welcome, Families Welcome and Walkers Welcome as well as a 3 Star Gold Award.

The cottage is cool in summer and warm in winter. There is central heating throughout. As well as the central thermostat, all the radiators have individual thermostats, so you can adjust the heating to your personal comfort level.

The cottage is situated in the small peaceful village of Litton, which has a village green, a community shop and the very popular Red Lion pub. Five minutes drive away is the larger village of Tideswell. The nearest towns are Bakewell (the home of Bakewell Pudding) and Buxton, (the home of Buxton mineral water and the Buxton Opera House).

Situated in the heart of the Peak District, Litton has easy access to some of the finest walks in the Derbyshire Dales. These include Cressbrook Dale, Monsal Head, the Monsal Trail and Mam Tor.

It is a good base for sightseeing. Haddon Hall, Chatsworth and Eyam Hall are nearby. Eyam is also famous as the “Plague Village.” Castleton is known for its caves and the blue john stone mined there.

For children, Alton Towers is accessible for a day trip.

Throughout the summer, the Derbyshire Well Dressings are an essential part of every holiday.

Pets welcome at no extra cost.

Further details

Coal, wood, electricity and gas are included in the price. All linen including towels and tea towels, dishwasher tablets, laundry powder, washing up liquid and soap provided.

Pets are welcome at no extra cost.

Further details indoors

The kitchen-breakfast room looks out over the courtyard and the fields beyond. It is well equipped with washer-dryer, dishwasher, microwave oven, electric fan-assisted oven, gas hob, freezer and fridge.

The double bedroom looks out over fields. As well as this magnificent view, it has a double bed, with an electric blanket, a double sofa bed and ample storage space. The front bedroom has twin beds. It faces the green - you can see the birds in summer, the village Christmas tree in winter and the Red Lion all year round. This bedroom has a television.

We welcome children. For families we offer:
- a travel cot, high chair and baby alarm available on request
- a safe environment; the fire has a fixable fire guard and all unused power sockets have socket covers
- a variety of books and toys, - details of activities and tourist attractions for children in our Welcome Folder
- details of short local walks for children in our Welcome Folder
We also invite children to draw a picture for our "Guests' Gallery" in the kitchen (see below).

Further details outdoors

You can park on the slip road to the side of the cottage, where your car is visible from the dining room window. There is more parking space across the road in front of the school. Litton is a very safe village.

“Nice but needs better cleaning.”

Reviewed 3 Oct 2023

Positives The location was good, spacious cottage, everything was working as it should. Heating worked well and place was cosy. Parking was a bit hit and miss outside the cottage but plenty of space within the village. Bathroom was nice. It was dog friendly and there are country walks right from the door. Area was lovely, great base. Small shop a minute away and pub over the road. Quiet little village. Excellent chip shop in Tideswell. Negatives Double bed seemed smaller than normal and was quite soft. Cleanliness was an issue- food debris in sink, the washing up bowl and drainer were visibly grimy, there were cleaning products and I had to give them a good scrub. The kitchen bin was very dirty on the lid which you had to touch to open - more cleaning for me! (Foot pedal bin is a much better option) The freezer bottom drawer was full of food that had been left in fridge and instead of binning had been put in freezer?? Crumbs on the kitchen work-surfaces where obviously only the main parts had been wiped. In main bedroom there was a drawer full of clothes that had obviously been left over time and put in a drawer, like a mishmash of underwear, socks and T shirts, these need removing. Overall we enjoyed our stay at the cottage, I would recommend if the cleaning regime was much better.

Stayed over New Year for two nights with my partner, two teenagers and our dog. The cottage was warm, comfortable and had plenty of space. It was a perfect location on the village green and close to the local pub; which served gorgeous food.

“Home from home”

Reviewed 17 Oct 2021

Really enjoyed our stay in this lovely cottage. All instructions for arrival and departure very clear. We felt instantly at home as everything we could need and very cosy and comfortable. Even the couple of cob webs made it feel more like home and not too perfect which is what we like. Parking was ok not always possible to park outside but always room at the school. So many places to visit close by and more than enough left for a return visit. Lovely pub across the road doing great food. Lots of great dog walks in the area too. Might be worth labelling the bins that belong to the cottage and blue recycle bin only appeared on last day! (Think the farm had it!) A list of what can be recycled in bin in this area would also help as every area is different. Thanks for our stay - we loved it!

Response from the owner Thank you for your lovely review, Bigshirl2, and apologies for the delayed reply. I'm embarrassed about the cobwebs and keeping a close eye out for them from now on! I have ordered new recycling bins, to avoid confusion in the future and will add notes about recycling to the Welcome Folder Thanks for the tip!

Response from the owner Thank you, Suffolkian, for your lovely thoughtful review, and apologies for my late reply. Your review will be particularly helpful to families with children and dogs. My dogs prefer a walk on the green to the garden too. (My children are now adults, but Cross View was very much part of their childhood).
