Description from owner

Description

A Grade I listed Stuart garden house of 1620 in a private wooded valley in the heart of the Cotswolds. Sleeps 2 to 5 on three floors. Loggia on the ground floor has views over the listed gardens of the Tudor manor house.

The Court House with its romantic period charm is a favourite with history and architecture buffs. The front door opens directly into a garden loggia restored as an attractive dining room. The glass doors, divided by a simple Tuscan column, here frame the view of the east wing of the manor house and its yew trees immortalized by the etching of the famous Cotswold artist F.L. Griggs.

The small open-plan kitchen leads from the dining room. The bathroom lies beyond, with a bath and over-bath shower.

A narrow spiral staircase leads to a pretty sitting room in the old Justice Room on the first floor, with vintage horsehair sofa and charming brass nick nacks. The small main bedroom with zip and link queen-sized double bed (and a basin) are beyond.

The stairs wind up again to two cosy bedrooms on the second (attic) floor -- with low ceilings for Stuart statures. The first, with twin single childs' beds nestled under the sloping eaves, leads through the trusses to the larger one, curtained off, with a small 4ft double bed. The oval bull's-eye windows enjoy delightful views over the valley.

"Rooms cosy. It oozes history"--The Guardian.

Response from the owner Thank you for your comments about your stay at The Court House. We take all comments very seriously, but regret that we were not informed about these observations while our guests were staying, as we could have responded to their concerns directly. The Court House is a grade 1 listed building built in the 17th century. It has bags of character but unfortunately it does not have modern insulation, but it has very efficient heating systems and people always tell us how cosy it is. We also look forward to conducting full refurbishment of the house this year (2017). Many thanks, The Owlpen Team

“Peaceful retreat on a countryside estate”

Reviewed 29 Jun 2016

The Court House cottage on the Owlpen Manor was exactly what we wanted in our Cotswold escape: picturesque, historic, well-placed and welcoming. We had a party of four and while the cottage can be considered 'tight' on the inside, the split levels allow for privacy and quiet time. The gardens on the estate are lovely and well maintained, and the surrounding area is what you expect in the Cotswold - quintessential England. Bella was easy to coordinate with and made the admin aspects of our trip hassle free. Thanks!
