Description from owner

Description

Heron's Nest log cabin, part of Willowbank Lodges, nestles in a small hamlet in the heart of the Pewsey Vale bordering the Kennet and Avon canal. The five luxury log cabins have been solidly built from Russian redwood and are situated in three and a half acres including a private lake and are surrounded by beautiful countryside and a wide variety of wildlife. Heron's Nest cabin directly overlooks the stream and facing due west, is the sunniest cabin on site so gets the sun in the early evening after everyone else has been cast into shade.

Bird lovers will enjoy watching the various families of waterfowl on the lake, including our indigenous pair of swans, herons and our kingfisher who flies up and down both the lake and the stream and can be seen sitting on the railings near the end cabin, Kingfisher, so named.

Ramblers and cyclists alike will enjoy the miles of walks straight from the cabin gates with panoramic views of the Pewsey Vale from Martinsell Hill and of course we are on the National 4 cycle trail. Our ancient Savernake Forest is only a 5 minute drive away and is quite stunningly beautiful whether you are walking, picnicking or cycling.

The cabins provide a superb holiday base from which to explore the ancient county of Wiltshire and are easily accessed from the M3 and M4. Furthermore, the airports of London Heathrow, Bristol, Southampton and Bournemouth are between one and one and a half hours drive away. The local village of Pewsey is less than two miles away and boasts a good supermarket, butcher, baker, petrol station, garage, Indian restaurant, cafes and pubs and it also has a railway station with a fast train service to London and the West Country.

No smoking is allowed in the cabins but can be enjoyed outside under the cover of the veranda.

Well behaved dogs welcome and verandas now have gates therefore secure for dogs and young children.

Flexible changeover days - see Conditions.

“Blissful peace and quiet!”

Reviewed 27 Mar 2018

We arrived with snow on the ground and were delighted by the warmth and cosiness of our cabin. Everything we needed was provided and the cabins are very tastefully presented. The setting is peaceful and beautiful with plenty of wildfowl for interest. A lovely walk along the canal path in either direction will take you to excellent pubs for lunch. Great area for dog walking, but at Willow Bank it is best to keep them on the lead so they don’t disturb the wildfowl. The nearby village of Pewsey can provide for most of your needs and Marlborough with its very attractive town centre is only 15 minutes drive away. We had a great time and definitely plan to return!

Response from the owner Thank you for your lovely and very comprehensive review. I was on holiday in hotter climes when the UK had a second bout of snow, so could only read about it and be thankful that I was not there! I am so glad that despite the cold weather you enjoyed the cosiness of the cabin and managed to have a great time. It is a very good place to chill and just watch all the wildlife. We are lucky to be in a beautiful part of Wiltshire yet conveniently close to all the amenities of Pewsey and Marlborough. I am very happy that you would like to return and look forward to meeting you both then.

Response from the owner Hello! Thank you so much for your very kind comments and for such a comprehensive review about the immediate vicinity which I am sure other travellers will find very helpful. How wonderful you saw one of our kingfishers - a guest has reported seeing them flying down the stream in front of Herons Nest in a pair which must be quite a rare sight! I look forward to seeing you again sometime in the future.

Response from the owner Hello Peter! I am very surprised to receive such a damning 'review' and one which strongly suggests I have not responded to your enquiry because of your disability! If you left a telephone message then I have not personally taken it off the ansafone, as I do respond to all messages - this is how I earn my income so all enquiries are important to me. Up until 10 days ago my daughter was living with me and I can only think that she took down your message then forgot to give it to me, in which case my apologies. These things occasionally happen when the business is run from home and other family members are around. As far as any email enquiry is concerned, I have just done a search of my Inbox, my Sent box and have searched my personal hotmail account to which a copy of all my business emails are sent as a back up. Furthermore, I have trawled through all my emails back to 1st April to see if I have missed replying to any of them in case your email did not include your name in it and, again, nothing has flagged up. I have dealt with everything. Perhaps you thought you sent me an email but didn't press the Send button, or sent it to a different address by mistake, easy to do if you were looking at a lot of different accommodation at the time. I have had a lot of disabled people stay at the cabins, some requiring special equipment to be delivered and I am only too aware of the lack of accommodation which is suitable for people with mobility problems so am very pleased to be able to offer my lodges which are suitable for most of their needs. If you would like to phone me again or send an email to nickywood@willowbanklodges.com, I would be delighted to tell you whether or not one of the cabins (I have two sizes) would be suitable for you and whether or not the dates fit. Best wishes, Nicky Wood
