Description

Coulsden Cottage is a beautifully presented holiday cottage situated right in the centre of Bakewell with all the town amenities including many pubs, restaurants and shops directly on the doorstep.

The cottage is a Grade II-listed building and has been totally renovated to provide the modern comforts of double glazing, central heating and a luxuriously appointed interior with satellite TV and wireless internet.

The property is best approached from the rear where you can park (up to two cars) in a secure courtyard (protected by high gates). There are outside tables and chairs and nicely planted borders and containers.

Entering through the back door there is a hallway with cloakroom and downstairs WC. To one side is the generous size lounge with 3 settees seating 7 people comfortably together with a desk and various sideboards and side tables. There is freesat TV and a DVD player. To the other side is the dining kitchen with a well equiped modern kitchen and seating for 6 around a large dining table.

Upstairs there is one large master bedroom with ensuite (with bath, basin and WC) and a further 2 rooms which can either be linked together or used seperately. One has two single beds and the other a futon bed which can be made into a double or left as a sofa, the room can used as an additional lounge/play room and there is also an freesat TV in this room . An interconnecting door links these two rooms together.

There is a separate upstairs bathroom with shower, basin and WC.

All the interior of the cottage is decorated and fitted out to a very high standard and provides a very comfortable centrally located base to explore one of the most popular areas of the country.

Please note changeover days are on Fridays and Mondays.

We offer 3 night weekend breaks (Fri-Mon), 4 night weekday breaks (Mon-Fri)

or full weeks Fri-Fri or Mon-Mon.

In school holiday periods we only offer full weeks Fri-Fri.

“Great location but room for improvement”

Coulson Cottage is located right in the middle of Bakewell and is a great location for visiting both the town and the surrounding area, it’s also only 15 minutes away from Chatsworth House. There is parking at the rear for two cars, although if you have a large car the entrance may be a little narrow. The cottage itself is quite large with kitchen diner, lounge and a toilet on the ground floor along with a cupboard to store jackets and boots etc. The first floor contains 2 bedrooms, one double and one twin. The twin has an additional room off it which can double as another double bedroom, although it is a bed settee rather than a bed. The double has an en-suite and the other two rooms share a bathroom with shower, washbasin and toilet. The en-suite contains a bath with a handheld shower attachment rather than a shower cubicle. Unfortunately the whole cottage is looking tired. The paint is cracked, the settees in the lounge are very soft and uncomfortable, the beds are old mattresses and creak and groan as if they were years old, if fact the whole place could do with some money spending on it to bring it up to a good standard. The cleanliness is okay but there were layers of dust behind all the beds and the settee and there needs to be an improvement in this area. To say that the cottage can sleep a maximum of 6 people it is also lacking enough crockery and glasses etc which although there is a dishwasher is annoying. Overall considerable room for improvement and I probably would not book again unless it was refurbished.

Response from the owner We have acted on Peters comments and have upgraded the crockery supplies. The cleanliness issues have been raised with the cleaning company. The cottage is being refurbished in January 2023.

“Gorgeous cottage”

The cottage is gorgeous and is 2 minutes from the center of Bakewell, even though you are on a main road the cottage was very quiet and we felt very relaxed there. We stayed in most nights and cooked and there was plenty of choice of cooking utensils. The beds were very comfy and the showers were excellent. I have a large car and i found the parking quite tight but that would not stop me returning to this beautiful cottage. I definitely would stay here again. Everybody in Bakewell was really friendly i loved it.

“Lovely cottage within easy walking distance of shops, pubs and restaurants.”

This cottage exceeded our expectations in every way. It was far more spacious than we expected and our party of six never felt overcrowded. The cottage position in Bakewell is just perfect. Once we’d parked our car in the yard behind the cottage we never moved it again until we left. A massive bonus to find a cottage so near to the town centre with its own parking. There are plenty of pubs and restaurants to drink and eat in and a reasonably good sized and well stocked Coop all in walking distance. We used the cottage as a base to do a few circular walks in the area. Highly recommend a stay here.
