Description

SANDHILLS HOUSE, which has a 2014 Trip Advisor Certificate of Excellence, is a new, family run, 3 bedroom self catering holiday home, which has been finished to high specifications. It is located beside the family home, on a quiet country road in heart of the West Clare. The design of the house ensures that guests have ample privacy at all times but also have the advantage of having the owners nearby should guests have any queries or just want to call in for a chat or need someone for childminding!

The house is a five minute walk from the 2 mile long sandy Doughmore Beach. It overlooks the 8th, 9th, 10th & 11th greens of Trump International Golf Links Ireland (Doonbeg). It has 3 bedrooms, 2 on first floor which are ensuite - king ensuite; double + single ensuite. The third bedroom is located on the ground floor adjacent to the main bathroom, ideally situated for elderly guests. The kitchen is fully equipped with integrated appliances and is stocked with the basic essentials, i.e. tea, coffee, sugar etc. Bed linen, bath towels, beach towels & tea towels are supplied. Solar panels provide the hot water. Free WiFi available. Flat screen TV/DVD combi with free to air channels & radio/CD player in the living room.

There is a large enclosed landscaped garden and a fresh supply of herbs from the herb garden, right outside the kitchen door, for those who enjoy cooking. Ample private parking for several cars and lock up storage facilities for bicycles, golf clubs, surf boards, fishing rods, roof boxes etc.

Children are particularly welcome at Sandhills House where they can enjoy the freedom of the quiet countryside; endless fun on the beach, a visit to the farm and playing in the garden. We have a trampoline, swings, slide, swingball, goalposts, a go-kart, a selection of books, toys and games and buckets, spades & fishing nets for the beach which children are welcome to use. Travel cot, stair gates, high chair, safety bed rails, car booster seat, black-out blinds and socket covers are available for families with very young children.

Trump International Golf Links & Hotel, where guests can enjoy a round of golf, relax in the White Horse Spa, dine in the Ocean View Restaurant or enjoy a drink in Trump's Bar, is only a five minute drive away. Sandhills House is the perfect location for anyone attending a wedding at Trump International Hotel and we offer guests complimentary transport to and from the venue.

Getting around

Our house is located in a rural coastal area on the Wild Atlantic Way, mid way between the Cliffs of Moher and Loop Head - an ideal base for touring the area. The most practical way of getting around to see all the sights that West Clare has to offer is by car.

Interaction with guest

We live right next door and are always on hand to personally welcome guests when they arrive and to show them around; we are always available should guests have any queries or just want to call in for a chat or need someone for childminding. The design of the house ensures that guests can enjoy ample privacy at all times. We also enjoy taking guests to some of the lesser known beauty spots, that they may not find otherwise.

“Charming cottage on the west coast”

This cottage is perfect and equipped with every comfort (there is nothing better!). Everything is very clean, spacious and tidy. Mattresses are very good. We slept like babies. There is a nice garden to relax and lots of books and games for bad weather. For home cooks, the kitchen offers all amenities including a dishwasher. The location is rural and quiet. To the dunes and the long sandy beach it is only a very short walk. Sandhills House is ideally located for day trips (eg Cliffs of Moher, Burren National Park, Ennis, Kilkee, Loop Head Lighthouse ....). The hostess Nuala is very nice and helpful. She accompanies us on a wonderful cliff walk (without tourist crowds) and gave us a lot of infomation about the area. Thanks to the chickens for fresh eggs daily.

“Exceeded all expectations!”

We stayed in Sandhills House for 4 nights in June. Despite reading all the excellent reviews on tripadvisor the property still managed to exceed all our expectations. Situated within 20 mins drive of kilkee,Lahinch and killrush and a 5 min walk across the family farm to Doughmore Strand( a magnificent 2 miles golden beach we had to ourselves) the location is perfect. The house itself was immaculately clean and we were greeted on arrival with a warm welcome from Nuala and homemade brown bread and cakes. The 3 bedrooms and living area gave us ample space and were beautifully furnished with oak furniture throughout. The beds were extremely comfortable and each of the 3 bathrooms were spotless and contained numerous toiletries. The kitchen was stocked with every utensil ever invented and there was a plentiful supply of essentials such as tea bags,coffee,sugar and dish washer tablets.eggs were supplied daily by our own resident hens. The private garden was wonderfully maintained and Our 2 year old daughter was in her element playing on the swings,slides and trampoline or chasing Bruno the friendly Collie around the garden. Overall our stay in Sandhills house was faultless, the attention to detail really sets this house apart. We will definitely return!

Nuala is a very friendly and nice host. She tried everything to make our stay unforgettable and was very helpful with everything. We had a great time in Doobeg in a fantastically equipped and modern house and even with fresh eggs every morning! The quite and beautiful bay is just a few minutes away. Everything is like it was describes and shown in the pictures - or even better. Totally recommendable!

“5 Star Holiday House Rental in Doonbeg West Clare”

i stayed in Sandhills House October of last year with some friends and returned in May this year to experience once more Nuala's wonderful hospitality. Sandhills House located beside Trump International Golf Club and the beautiful Doonbeg Beach. i knew before we arrived that this indeed would be a perfect birthday present for my son Aidan who loves Golf. and visiting interesting famous attractions like the Cliffs of Moher and the Burren. This location is a golfers paradise and for families and all guests it has a beautiful garden with BBQ Patio Table and chairs etc to enjoy.a nice meal and a glass of wine. Nuala true to form provided us with a very generous welcome basket which included wine, scones, cakes, home made brown bread, and enough groceries to feed an army. The very spacious bedrooms are all en suite and we were delighted with the lovely baskets containing numerous toiletries and beauty products. Thank you Nuala for your warm welcome and hospitality. I'm one of the friends, and I didn't drive, so this is only a passengers comment that the location seemed a bit hard to find. But for anyone feeling discouraged by this, do persevere, and do ask locally as you will miss out on a great experience if you don't come here. The beach, clean and uncrowded is within walking distance, but a car would be needed for other trips, I think.

“Hard to leave such a lovely house and its beautiful surroundings”

This is one of the best places I have ever stayed. Everything and I mean everything has been thought of from toasty pockets to seaweed baths to baby toys! There is a great supply of games, books and puzzles for when you are indoors and the house itself is immaculately clean, warm and comfortable. If there is anything you need (which I doubt) the owners live just a stones throw away and are more than happy to help. We stayed for a week with our four month old baby and found it such a lovely peaceful place to be even when the Irish weather was doing its worst outside. Surrounded by fields and cows, just a short walk to the beach along which you can reach the golfclub and within half an hours drive of many pretty towns and villages, not forgetting the cliffs of Moher and lots more besides (information leaflets detailing all the local points of interest can be found in the house). If you're looking for a quiet getaway from which to explore the beautiful unspoilt west coast of county Clare or fancy trying your hand at golfing, surfing, horse riding or just getting out on bicycles (yes these are provided too!) then I don't think you could find better than this. We, family with 4 children, stood 4 days in this great location very close to the sea with a fantastic scenery. Our host family was extraordinary friendly. For sure, we will come back! The house was perfectly and beautiful prepaired and established.

“Everything you could possibly need!”

We've rented houses several times in the past but generally in holiday villages. This was the first time we opted for a private rental. The house was so well equiped that we commented on it several times. From items such as a beach blanket to games for the kids. Although the weather wasn't great there was still plenty to keep the kids (5 year old and 16 month old) amused. The quality of the furnishings in the house was top class and cleanliness was second to none. I wasn't really blown away by Doonbeg village itself. It's probably a dining destination for people staying in Kilkee. The pubs and restaurants were extremely quiet but probably livened up late in the evening. We were tied to early times and I'm not sure that I found it that great for small kids. Saying that Doonbeg Lodge was ideal. I didn't find it too much more expensive that other local restaurants and it was comfortable and spacious. I didn't feel too bad if the kids weren't seated at all times.

“Perfect!”

Sandhills House was exactly what we were looking for and needed. The house is spotlessly clean with 3 lovely bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. The living space is very comfortable and everything you could possible think of is provided. There were 4 of us (2 adults and 2 children) and the space was great, there is a garden at the side which was lovely and so well kept, it was lovely and relaxing sitting out there. At the back of the house there is a bigger garden with lots for the kids to do. The beach is literally 5 minutes away through the adjoining farm, which was also very interesting for the kids. The beach is beautiful and you could walk for hours on it. There were lots of rocks at the end of the beach which provided lots of entertainment for the kids. We were made feel so welcome and the house so well presented and prepared, we will definitely visit again, it was an absolute pleasure to stay there. If you are looking for a quiet place to stay this is it with both a country and seaside feel to it.

“An oasis of peace and tranquiity”

We stayed in Sandhills House for 3 nights and it was the best holiday home we've ever stayed in. Great location, very clean, cosy, super showers, all mod cons and very, very comfortable beds! Nuala has developed an amazing holiday retreat with tons of information at hand. Nothing is overlooked, there's even a needle and thread! The walks are amazing with Bruno the loving collie, leading the way. Within a 5 minute walk is the amazing Doughmore beach. 35 minutes walk to the golf club with the wild atlantic waves for company and hardly another soul in sight. A coffee or a pint in Darby's bar and you're well set up for the return walk along the beach. Sheer bliss.We'll be back! Thanks Nuala and family, and of course Bruno!
