Description from owner

Description

Vineyard Cottage was originally part of a old stable block and has been carefully extended and refurbished, retaining the exposed beams and split stable-style front door. The cottage is on one side of a courtyard, opposite the main house, a 19th century barn conversion and is tucked away behind an old quince tree with Wisteria, Roses, Honeysuckle and Lily-of-the-valley growing around the front door. You will only hear the gentle sounds of birds singing and trees rustling in the breeze when you wake in the morning!

We are situated in Clifton Hampden, a pretty village in South Oxfordshire, just four miles from Abingdon, eight miles from Oxford, less than an hour by train from London and a 15 minute walk from the Culham Science Park.

A few steps lead up to the adjacent private south facing terrace, which is partially shaded by a pergola covered with grapevines and climbing roses with raised borders full of lavender, catmint and blue geraniums. The terrace overlooks a small wild flower meadow where you can relax on a bench and admire the uninterrupted views to Wittenham Clumps. There are two all weather sunbeds and a teak dining table with four comfortable chairs with cushions available for outdoor dining, along with a sun parasol and a Weber barbecue, so you can make the most of sunny summer days and long summer evenings. (the terrace is accessed via six steps, so it is unfortunately not wheelchair accessible).

The second bedroom and bathroom are situated on the ground floor. The bed/s in this room can be made up as either one single bed, twin beds or a king size bed Please advise on booking which layout you would like.

This room has a desk/table, if you need to work on a laptop.

This downstairs bedroom is easily accessible for disabled or elderly guests. The shower has a safety handrail inside the shower, a floor to ceiling pole just outside the shower cubicle and a stable shower stool.

If you would prefer to use the downstairs bedroom instead of the upstairs one, please let me know at the time of booking.

Also, if you are friends staying, rather than a couple and want to use both bedrooms, please let me know in advance, so as to avoid any misunderstandings.

Babies and children are always welcome and they will love visiting our hens, watching the wild ducks, rabbits and deer who visit the garden, the sheep and lambs in the adjacent paddock and the red kites that frequently circle overhead. Our two cats Milo and Jake like to make friends too but please don't allow them into the cottage, in case any future guests have allergies. There is a swing in the garden for children to enjoy and a playground just a 10 minute walk away at the Recreation Ground.

We have a travel cot available with bedding (from birth to age 2-2.5), baby bath (tummy tub), changing mat, highchair/baby dining chair (from 6 months to about 3 years), junior dining chair (age 4-6), a bed side safety rail and a safety gate for the stairs. Please let us know if you would like to use any of these items when booking.

There is a free Wi-Fi connection, a bluetooth speaker, Netflix, local guide books, novels, family games and DVD's for adults and children to enjoy.

A small supply of teabags, instant coffee, sugar, olive oil, kitchen and toilet rolls, washing up liquid and dishwasher tablets is available. A bottle of wine is provided for bookings of a week or longer.

Environmentally friendly and non-animal tested products are used wherever possible.

The dining table extends to seat up to six people, if you would like to invite guests for dinner!

10% discount given to returning guests staying a week or more! Please send me a booking request, as this can only be deducted before you book.

Getting around

There is a small railway station (Culham) about a 20 minute walk from the cottage, which is useful for trains into Oxford. They run approximately every 2 hours. It is also possible to travel from there to London, changing trains at Didcot Parkway or Oxford station. The total journey time will be 50-60 minutes, depending on connection times. Alternatively its a 10 minute drive to Didcot Parkway station, where there is a long stay car park and the trains run more frequently, so the train journey is then about 40 minutes.. There is only a very limited local bus service.

Interaction with guest

We leave guests in peace to enjoy their stay but if you need anything, please let us know and we will be happy to help, whenever possible.

“Great location and very well equipped”

Reviewed 23 Aug 2022

We were delighted to find this property. The location suited us perfectly while our son was on a week’s work experience at the Oxford Business Park near Cowley and the Mini Plant. An easy commute via the Golden Balls roundabout! The cottage is comfortable and well equipped. It feels like home and has just about everything one might hope to find and more. Great WiFi and telly. Shout out to hosts Fiona and Glenn for all the thought and consideration that must have gone into setting it up.

“A very enjoyable stay”

Reviewed 16 Aug 2022

We thoroughly enjoyed our 2 weeks here. The location is excellent with great countryside and much to see, and the cottage is comfortable and well equipped. We loved the beautiful garden. Fiona and Glenn are very good hosts - friendly and helpful - and their cat Milo visited daily to check all was well. All in all an excellent fortnight.
