Description

Bide-a-wee is a cosy cottage with flagged floors, an open fire and beamed ceilings. The cottage sleeps 5 (plus 1 child) and has its own Patio complete with garden furniture.

Being in the middle of one of the most beautiful, yet undiscovered corners of the country means you can explore the area, enjoying all of the attractions, activities, pubs, markets and stunning scenery without the bother of traffic jams and town centres bursting at the seams with thousands of other tourists.

The detached cottage is set on our farm on the edge of the picture-perfect village of Romaldkirk, it's the ideal place for walking or cycling; relaxing; family breaks or simply to enjoy our beautiful dale. Whether you are looking to escape for a week or more, or whether you are looking for a short weekend or mid-week break, we can help.

Well behaved dogs are welcome. We also have facilities to accommodate horses in our DIY livery yard. With footpaths and bridleways leading straight from the cottage it makes an ideal spot for pets

“Superb”

Reviewed 30 Oct 2020

A beautiful cottage in the heart of Teesdale, despite the rainy weather we had a lovely time exploring. The cottage itself is cosy, warm and clean. Loads of walking from the doorstep or a short drive away. We would definitely go back.

“Lovely comfortable cottage in a beautiful peaceful location.”

Lovely comfortable, clean cottage in a beautiful peaceful location. Good sized living rooms and bedrooms, fully equipped kitchen and fantastic shower with the added bonus of a small en-suite offering toilet and sink in the master bedroom. Great location for exploring the surrounding area with plenty of walks and easy access to tourist attractions. I would definitely recommend a stay here to family and friends.

“Warm, cosy, clean & comfortable holiday cottage, ideal for dogs with adjacent green.”

Reviewed 22 Aug 2020

Lovely setting, ideal for walking, tranquil and v.quiet. Rose & Crown looks nice but very busy especially with Covid restrictions and help to eat out so need to book well in advance. Walk along teesdale railway path to Middleton on Teesdale recommended and get bus back. Could do with a local bakery or deli, Teesdale store shop in Cotherstone closed down. Easy access to walks, low and high force recommended.

“Fabulous cottage, fabulous location.”

Reviewed 26 Jul 2020

We have been holidaying in North Yorks / Durham for around 12 years, this was our first time in Romaldkirk and it was excellent. The cottage was in a great location on the village green, was very well equipped and was larger than we had expected. As well as the cottage we thought Romaldkirk was a stunning location and the locals that we met were very friendly and welcoming, all in all one of the best holidays we have had. The only sadness was that the cottage was booked this week, otherwise we would have asked for an extension!! It was that good.

“Beautiful cottage in tranquil setting”

Reviewed 3 Aug 2019

My family and I stayed at Bide-a-wee for a week. It is a beautiful cottage in a picturesque tranquil setting. It has its own private enclosed car park and patio area, the cottage is a lot bigger than we expected for a 2 bedroom, there was plenty of space for the 6 of us, the bathroom has a lovely deep bath and walk in shower. It has lovely flagstone flooring downstairs. There is so much to do and explore in the area; we saw most of the Yorkshire dales, north pennines and visited the lake district all within easy reach. Despite it raining for most of our stay we still enjoyed ourselves. My only slight grumble is the master bedroom get a very warm even with the window open as it has the airing cupboard in, however a fan may solve this. We were sad to leave and would definitely consider staying again. We considered a few different cottages before booking this one and having since seen the others whilst looking round the area we were pleased we opted for Bide-a-wee.

Response from the owner Hi , We are very glad you all enjoyed your stay. When we renovated the cottage in 1990 we tried to keep all the traditional features. Hope fully by next year we are hoping to change the boiler to a combi, do away with the airing cupboard and put in a toilet and hand basin. We think this will improve the facilities. So watch this space. Regards Gwen
