Description

The Tythe Barn, our smallest cottage, provides a cosy retreat for two, with truly rustic charm. It is medieval, a character split-level studio apartment set in the last bay of Owlpen's listed Barn, converted above the coach house in about 1700. With massive oak cruck beams and principal trusses (like 'A' frames) which date it to the 1450s, this historic building has been completely renovated in the same style as Owlpen's larger cottages.

The open plan studio, light and spacious, has comfortable seating and a king-sized double bed, like a hotel suite.

Two steps lead up to the kitchenette and dining area with views towards the manor gardens and meadows. Adjacent is the bathroom, with sunken bath and shower. The cottage is heated with storage heaters.

Outside there is a large private terrace with a small wrought iron table to enjoy a morning cup of coffee in the sunshine. The cottage is situated in the heart of Owlpen's valley, over the Estate Office and Cyder Barn.

The Tythe Barn is one of nine stunning cottages set in a private wooded valley on the edge of the Cotswold hills. Here a fairy-tale Cotswolds hamlet centres around a church, with the famous Tudor manor house of Owlpen and a selection of romantic cottages all set in a picturesque wooded valley. This valley has long been recognised as one of the most romantic places in England and provides guests with an exclusive and relaxing hideaway surrounded by private beech woods and hills. There are many miles of walks from a gentle stroll round the estate trails to a 20 mile trek along the Cotswolds Way.

Situated in the Royal Triangle in the heart of the Cotswolds hills the historic cities of Bath Cheltenham and Cirencester are all within an easy drive as are the cultural and scenic attractions of Oxford Blenheim Palace and Stratford Upon Avon which are popular day excursions. An ideal base for the Horse Trials at Badminton and Gatcombe Park and racing at Cheltenham. National Trusts Newark Park is a few miles away as well as many historic houses including Berkeley Castle, Chavenage House and Sudeley Castle. The choice of attractions and things to see and do is huge and you will need to return to see and explore it all.

Ample parking. Bed linen, towels and heating included. Wi-Fi is available. Regret no smoking.

The Cyder House restaurant on site can be pre-booked for groups of 15 people or more by prior arrangement.

The restaurant, manor house and cottages also adapt well as an unforgettable setting for weddings, gatherings of friends, meetings and corporate events.

Laundry service available (extra charge applies).

Short breaks.

Location: pub and shop, microbrewery and arts centre in the nearby village of Uley.
