Description

Annexe in Morcombelake, Nr. Bridport, Dorset, England

The annexe is a small, but perfectly formed, studio annex that provides comfortable and modern holiday accommodation. It was refurbished and newly furnished in September 2016. It has the most wonderful private hillside garden (which we are extending for summer 2017) sitting under a stunning Scots Pine, with spectacular far reaching views of Charmouth and Lyme Regis. To the right of the garden views over mature pasture. The garden is equipped with everything you need - BBQ, table and chairs and fire pit. There is off-road parking. Dog's are extremely welcome.

It is the perfect place to stay for if you are looking for a great value base from which to explore this wonderful stretch of the Jurassic coast and surrounding countryside, with numerous walks and coastal paths direct from the annexe it is also a perfect location for walkers.

Coast/Beach:

The South West Coastal Path is less than 2 miles - 30 to 40 mins walk.

The closest beach as the crow flies is at St Gabriel's Mouth, just west of Golden Cap (the highest point on the south coast). It's a beautiful walk of about 40 mins and access is via steep wooden steps.

Charmouth beach is 3 miles, (6 mins drive) - to walk via Stonebarrow hill takes about 1 hour.

Other beaches at Seatown - 2.5 miles (5 min drive) - pub on the beach.

Eype - 5 miles (10 mins drive). Lyme Regis - 6 miles.

Travel:

Exeter airport - 30 miles; 40 mins drive.

Bournemouth Airport - 52 miles; 1hr 20mins drive.

Axminster railway - 9 miles; 15 mins drive; also X31 bus connection to Morcombelake (Ship Knapp stop)

Dorchester South and Dorchester West railway stations - 21 miles; X31 bus to Morcombelake (Ship Knapp stop).

Morcombelake has two regular bus services - X31 from Dorchester to Axminster and X53 that runs from Exeter to Poole.

Having use of a car is not essential but is recommended.

Further Details:

Morcombelake is host to an Award winning Farmshop, an excellent bakery, a post office and an Art Gallery.

2 regular bus routes, a short walk away, providing easy access right along the coast from Weymouth to Exeter.

4 major supermarkets as well as multiple banks in Bridport, a short 12 minutes drive away.

While there are several pubs only 5 minutes drive away in Charmouth, Chideock & Seatown, Bridport and Lyme Regis have numerous cafés, restaurants & pubs to choose from. For serious foodies, there is Mark Hix's restaurant in Lyme Regis and Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall's 'Canteen' in Axminster.

At West Bay(home to Broadchurch!), there are fishing and boat trips, plus for excellent seafood, the "Riverside Restaurant" is a must!

Bridport Arts Centre and The Electric Palace have theatre, music and film

The seaside village of Charmouth, with with its famous fossil beach and Heritage Coast Centre is only 5 minutes drive away or about 50 minutes walk via the coastal path. The beautiful National Trust estate at Golden Cap is within walking distance, as are the pretty villages and rolling countryside around the Marshwood Vale.

“Damp, with mold”

Response from the owner Thank you for taking the time to review our property. We value the opinions of our guests and we sincerely apologise that there were issues of cold and damp whilst you stayed. Had I been aware of the issues during your stay I would have addressed them immediately so we could find a solution and rectify the issues. Providing our guests with the best possible hospitality has and always will be our main focus. As soon as we were aware of the problems we took immediate action. Our builder came out to assess the situation as we had not had issues with damp before, which is visible from our past reviews. The builder found no major problems. He felt that it was due to excess condensation caused by a lack of ventilation, although he is unsure why it would suddenly occur. He immediately installed two new ventilation shafts into the annexe one on the front wall and one on the rear in order to create a better air flow through the building. We are also fitting a new extractor fan in the shower room which will automatically go on when you switch on the light on to ensure that it is always properly ventilated whilst guests are showering. With regards to the mould in the cupboard I can only apologise once again. I was not available to carry out your checkin and it is apparent that the cupboard had not been thoroughly checked prior to your arrival which would have flagged up condensation issues. Once again I can assure you than in the future all cupboards will be throughly checked. With regards to the cold the heating is controlled in the main property and during September we put it on as and when at the request of the guests. My sincere apologies that you were obviously not made aware of that on your arrival. We now realise that this is not ideal so we will ensure that the heating is set to turn on automatically whenever the temperature falls below a certain level from the beginning of September through to spring, ensuring that our guests are always warm. This has also been set to 3 times a day morning, midday and evening. We appreciate that sometimes things go wrong, but should we make a mistake, we would always try to rectify it during the guests stay, to ensure that they have a wonderful time and leave us feeling happy and relaxed. Should you wish at any time to return to West Dorset then do please consider us again as we would love the opportunity to put things right.
