Description from owner
Description
Overlooking the beautiful Otter Valley in the heart of the Blackdown Hills, AONB. Otter Rise is a pretty, detached cottage with large, private gardens. Tastefully finished to a high standard, once inside the cosy accommodation is accessible for wheelchairs. Lovely country walks from the door, beautiful beaches a short drive away.
Many of our friends have called Otter Rise a 'little piece of heaven' and everyone who comes to stay loves the peace and tranquility of the area. We also love the friendliness of the people, the beautiful riverside or woodland walks and exploring the ancient, hidden lanes; a visit to the nearby beaches and fossil hunting along the Jurassic Coast is special and what can beat buying the freshest fish straight from the boats on the slipway at Beer? We'll share our favourite restaurants and pubs with you, most of which welcome dogs.
When you've had enough of all this fresh air and country goodness, there are plenty of shops, theatres and cinemas or, closer to home are numerous small towns with unique, quirky shops to explore.
We like Otter Rise to feel like a home away from home for our guests, so we have tried to provide everything you could wish for in a self-catering cottage, as well as the obvious you will also find beach towels, picnic backpack, a first basket of logs for the wood burner, lots of games, books, toys and jigsaws for young and old as well as DVD's and CD's, all linen and towels and tea, coffee's and sugar to name just a few.

“Lovely stay in an idyllic spot”

Response from the owner Thank you for taking the time to leave us such a lovely review, we are so pleased that you enjoyed your stay at Otter Rise and liked everything that we offer. We have looked into offering WiFi in the cottage, however we are in one of the few areas left in the UK where it is not available, like you many of our guests don't miss it and some enjoy a technology detox! We do have 3G and 4G reception and the village shop offers free WiFi, in return for purchasing a hot drink or a cake! We hope to welomce you back again one day. Best wishes Anne and Chris

“Little peice of heaven”
Anne and Chris are lovely hosts. The local village shop sells everything you need. The only reason I rated 4 stars was the lack of WI Fi and would have preferred the arrival time to be 3o’clock … More

Response from the owner Dear Lorraine It was lovely to meet you when you came to stay at Otter Rise in the summer and thank you for taking the time to leave us a review, we always appreciate it. We are very pleased that you enjoyed your stay and liked the bread and cakes. We are disappointed that you witheld one star due to a lack of WiFi at the cottage, it is not included on our list of facilities. This is something that is out of our control as we are in one of the those areas in the UK where rural broadband may never upgrade to 'useable' speeds, we have tried taking BT to task on this. We do receive 3G on most mobile networks and 4G on some. The village shop offers a free high speed wifi connection in their cafe. We appreciate your comments about the check in time, we always try to be flexible with check-in and check out times, so it's always worth guests asking if they would prefer a different time, we'll do our best to help. Hope to see you again one day. Best wishes, Anne & Chris

Response from the owner Thank you for taking the time to leave us such a lovely review Karen, it was lovely to meet you both and Alfie of course. We're so pleased you liked the home-made goodies on offer. We like to feel that as our house is about 100 metres away from the cottage and out of sight, we are close to enough to be on hand should anyone need us, but wouldn't dream of intruding on anyone's holiday, so it's good to know we seem to have got the balance right! :-) Thank you again for coming to stay at Otter Rise. Response from the owner Dear Vicky, Thank you for coming to stay at Otter Rise recently and for taking the time to leave us a review, we are pleased that you both had an enjoyable time here. We do appreciate the feedback about some of the additional extras that we provide for our guests, such as the beach towels and picnic backpack. Your comments regarding the things that niggled you are also useful to us. We are sorry if you felt the bathrooms were a little chilly; when we renovated the cottage we took great care to add additional insulation not just in the roof and floors but also the inside and outside of all the walls. Clearly this was not sufficient so we will now be looking at adding heating to the bathrooms, in case we have another exceptionally cold winter/spring. The double bed has once again been silenced, unfortunately by the nature of metal beds they can sometimes squeak and of course we are unaware of this until it’s brought to our attention, so thank you for mentioning it. With regard to the logs, we appreciate that perhaps we do need to make it clearer that we are only able to supply guests with the first basket of logs. All of the wood is cut from our own hedgerows so we have a very limited supply, details of local shops that supply logs are in the information folder in the cottage.

Response from the owner Thank you so much for choosing to come and stay at Otter Rise recently, it was lovely to meet you and we are so pleased that you had a lovely birthday time at the cottage and exploring the area. I am sorry that the bed was squeaky during your stay, we would have been happy to pop down and silence it for you had we known, it has now been dealt with! We're really looking forward to welcoming you back again in the future and if it happens to be around your birthday, I'll bake you a birthday cake next time! With best wishes Anne and Chris
