Description from owner

Description

Our self-catering barn annexe is located in a beautiful 18th threshers barn in the Deverill Valley, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) close to Longleat (7 miles); Stourhead (8 miles), Stonehenge (19 miles), Hauser and Wirth Somerset (15 miles) and Frome town. We have converted one end of the barn into a large bedroom, ensuite bathroom and kitchen annexe which looks out to an apple orchard. We live next door in a 18th-century farmhouse set in 300 acres of arable and unspoilt meadow downland, where herds of organic Wiltshire Horn sheep graze. Public foot and bridle paths lead you over and above the valley for miles of stunning uninterrupted views. You can hike, mountain biking or horse ride. We are within driving distance of numerous lovely local pubs with delicious food.

“It’s all outstanding”

Reviewed 30 Jun 2019

I’ve stayed here with my wife an son for a weekend. 1) the barn is perfect to sleep and relax 2) the whole farm is at your disposal, the hosts live in the adjacent house - beautiful property and gardens to walk, relax and breath clean air 3) the host is extremely helpful and kind - they provided us of plenty of recommendations and even booked us a table in their favourite country pub in the area! The hikes around the farm are idyllic and you are a short drive from a number of destinations where you can spend entire days immersed in nature. I will definitely go back, as we didn’t manage to experience all the things we were suggested. Thanks again to the hosts for their hospitality and help in making our weekend one to remember.

Response from the owner Thank you for your lovely review Stefano. It was so nice to meet you three and so glad you were able to unwind. Thank you for leaving the barn so immaculate. Please come back!! Weather just gets better and better..xx

“Lovely stay”

Reviewed 9 Oct 2018

Lovely warm & cosy, we were given some delicious fresh pressed Apple juice from the orchard in the fridge when we arrived. The owners were very welcoming and friendly. We were offered the use of a cinema room, perfect for Rainy Saturday in with a young child. I'd certainly recommend a stay.

“Lovely English countryside living at Monkton Barn”

Reviewed 31 Aug 2017

We had a delightful 2 night stay at Monkton Barn over the bank holiday weekend. The host Charlotte was very responsive and provided lots of information prior to our stay about how to find the property and recommendations for things to do in the area. The main reason for our trip was primarily a visit to Longleat safari park and being so close was a real benefit. However we also enjoyed a local pub lunch and walks around the property. The barn itself is very well equipped, the bedroom is spacious, with a high ceiling and a really comfortable bed. Charlotte provided a variety of things for our breakfast, including delicious bread, eggs, bacon, muesli as well as juice and milk. We loved the serenity of the barn and had a very relaxing time. We also absolutely adored the gardens, which were blooming with flowers and beautiful grasses and hedges. And to really make us feel like we were in the countryside, there were also ducks, dogs, sheep and horses which entertained our 18 month old son for hours! We would highly recommend Monkton Barn for a relaxing slice of delightful English countryside living.

Response from the owner Thank you Francois. Such a pleasure to meet you all and so glad you enjoyed the animals and were able to chill out in the garden. Thrilled too the black out curtains meant little William could have a decent afternoon nap undisturbed - we've only just installed them! With very best wishes to you all, Charlotte
