Description

This incredible holiday home in Chianti is located on the hills, surrounded by olive groves and vineyards, facing the Arno valley and the Pratomagno mountain range, just south of Florence (15km).It is a Tuscan medieval tower house and is part of a hamlet. The tower, originally built with white limestone in the 12th century, was restored between the 15th and 16th century assuming its current aspect. This farmhouse consists in 3 self-catering apartments for a total of 9 accommodations but is better occupied by couples since the bathroom is close to the double bedroom. The flats are respectively one on the ground floor of the main house, and one on the ground floor and the other on the first and second floor of the tower. The apartments are very comfortable and furnished with period furniture. Originally the ceilings of the tower were decorated with frescoes, today traces can be found on a panel in the flat on the first floor. In the accommodations there are reference books on Renaissance art and on Florence and Tuscany. There is no swimming pool. Pets accepted. On request the owner is available for cookery lessons on Tuscan and medieval dishes. It is also possible to organize a dinner with the owner. These accommodations are within reach of all commodities being situated at 16 km from Florence and 3.5 km from the town of Pontassieve which has shops, supermarkets, banks, a post office and even a railway station. Next restaurant and food shop are located in Rosano, ca. 2.4km. Excellent position for visiting many cultural and natural attractions such as the famous medieval towns of Tuscany and its parks. For sport lovers there is also the possibility of following the numerous itineraries around the countryside directly from the farmhouse.Lodging in the oldest part of the medieval tower:Superb apartment on the ground floor (70sqm) of this medieval property, on different levels. “Very Pleasant Experience”

This holiday home is an old rustic building with lots of character. There was an olive mill stone in the middle of the lounge. The views were beautiful overlooking the Tuscany hills. The owner was … More

“A Unique and Very Special Place With Wonderful Hosts”

Reviewed 29 Jul 2014

The accommodation is absolutely unique as you can see from the photos. We had a lovely time in this tranquil and beautiful setting where there are delightful terraces and special places within the grounds where you can relax and enjoy the sun or shade as you will. Our wonderful hosts, Massimo & Martina, were so kind and helpful and nothing was too much trouble - with helpful advice, lifts to the station, and so much more. We took our dog with us and he was also made very welcome and there were lots of great walks directly from the property. The nearest village is a pleasant half hour's stroll away and a little further takes you to Pontassieve where there are two excellent supermarkets and a range of other shops. There is a regular train service from Pontassieve to Florence (and many other places) if you want to get right into the heart of the city and not worry about parking. We would recommend taking the option to have a meal with Massimo and family at least one evening. Martina is an excellent cook and you will experience a genuine Tuscan meal with their lovely family in delightful surroundings. They both speak excellent English, and the children speak a little, too. My wife also had a cooking session with Martina and had great fun preparing fresh pasta for the first time and learnt a lot about real Italian cooking - and I had to go out and buy a traditional pasta maker the next day as a result. We also thoroughly enjoyed a full day with Massimo in his 4x4 seeing some parts of the local area you couldn't have seen any other way. His brilliant off-roading skills, excellent knowledge of this wonderful part of Tuscany, and his lovely manner, made this a really great day. Remember that this apartment is furnished with genuine antiques - if you are not used to living with period furniture and are expecting the sleek, bland furnishings and facilities that you would find in a modern hotel then this apartment might not be for you. If you are not so sure or would like more open views from the windows then consider the apartments in the tower which were also really lovely. We had a great stay here, and thoroughly enjoyed our week of living with an ancient mill wheel and everything that went with this very special place, including getting to know its wonderful owners, and we had a holiday we will treasure for a long time to come.
