Description

Clarendon House is a spacious five bedroom house situated within Shanklin old village. The house is just a short walk from Shanklin Bay and the beautiful sandy beach, with many restaurants, county pubs and gift shops.

The house is furnished to a high standard with a large kitchen and dining area that offers great family / social living. The house has a great outdoor patio area with a built-in barbecue which is deal with evening bbq's and social gatherings. A south facing garden which benefits from the sun all day long.

The master bedroom has an en suite with beautiful views over Shaklin Downs and glimpses of the sea. All other rooms are furnished throughout with comfortable beds and pillows to make sure you get a great nights sleep.

The property is equipped with wireless internet access, a new cooker, american fridge/freezer, cable TV and two bedrooms have TV's.

The family bathroom has a separate old fashioned roll top bath and a separate shower.

In the summer months a small road train provides a service to the town centre and Old Village. Steephill Cove, Monks Bay and Devil's Chimney are local, famous tourist attractions which are within easy reach from the property.

The nearby Luccombe Chine, a wooded coastal ravine, serves as a geological and visitor attraction just south of the village of Luccombe. The house has direct access to miles of country walks and a coastal path running between the villages of Shanklin and Ventnor, perfect for long days exploring the vast countryside. The coastal path also provides access to Bonchurch, Shanklin and Ventnor.

“Great location/unclean accommodation”

Our family stay was the last week of July 2020, costing just under £3,000. Ever grateful for getting away in the current climate. Plus points . Big house . Great location for Shanklin high street. .Comfortable back garden. Unfortunately that’s where it ends for us. The house is very run down, even though it has recently been painted badly in parts . It’s like they are tryIng to patch an oozing open wound with a plaster. I have added photos so you can make your own mind up about booking. . The house has a big moth problem. . Dried urine under the seat and at the back of all three toilets. . Broken tumble dryer . Toilet seats that don’t fit the pan and slide off to the side . Large thick cobwebs inside and out. . Leaking bath at the waste point. . Dirty shower tray. . Broken fridge draw. . Tired/torn beds. . Light fittings handing out of sockets. . Sticky painted ledge in the en suit never dried in the week we were there ? Clothes do sticks and stain if left of this ledge. I could go on .... the place needs a good deep clean and renovation. I would award this accommodation 3 star definitely not 5 star. The company that look after this property are based in Bournemouth. The following day we waited in for the cleaner to come and rectify a few things. On another day we waited to speak with the electrician about the lights/ bath. We didn’t wait in for the tumble dryer to be fixed. We wanted our holiday. I don’t have particularly high standards but i do expect other people’s urine to be cleaned, a working bath and no moths. It’s not about the money it’s about having a relaxing holiday and getting what you paid for. Would I stay again or recommend to others ... definitely not.

We have been shocked reading such review, we never had a bad review as you can see we enjoy a 5* rating throughout. We take any feedback on board and ensure we follow up on all issues mentioned. As you can imaging we have all year around maintenance work going on at the property and we are very much booked out and we do respect our guests privacy. In response to your points raised please find our comments below; The window unfortunately had been ordered but we received the wrong size which means we were unable to exchange the window. We are planning the window to be exchange at the end of the season to ensure we do not disturb any Guests during their stay. The Fridge has been exchanged last year and is a quality brand, we followed up with your comment and it seems that the ice was built up and caused the small puddle. There are no smells coming from the fridge either. I have asked our maintenance team to inspect all lighting and replace if necessary. We have had no previous reports on lights not working so we are surprised by this point but will obviously ensure all is looked into. Reference to light switches, again this has never been mentioned before and i can assure you that all our switches have been professionally installed and meet building regulations. Obviously the house is Victorian so it does have many period features which are quite different to modern specification properties of today. The main bay windows of the kitchen are a beautiful feature of this victorian property, and we would not want to put blinds up to stop all the natural light coming through, the windows also look onto the internal wall of the front driveway of the property so there are no privacy issues in our opinion at all. Finally According to my information the Gardener had informed you of his visit whilst he was emptying the bins. We are following this up with the management team to ensure this is the case but we apologies if there was any disturbance. Unfortunately, there is nothing we can do now to change anything for you as you have not informed us of any issues until the end of your stay. However, if you are planning to stay in a holiday let in the future please ensure any issues you experience please always contact the Host and give the Host a chance to rectify any problems, as cottages.com confirmed nothing had been communicated to the them during your stay. They have a dedicated team working around the Island to ensure immediate response for Guests. We will do our upmost to ensure any issues raised have been followed up to deliver a an outstanding experience for every guest.
