Description

Bass Cottage is part of the Kingston Estate a magnificent events venue and provider of luxury holiday cottages in Devon. Nestling amongst the rolling hills of the beautiful South Hams it is perfectly situated between Dartmoor and the South Devon coastal towns of Totnes, Torquay. Paignton, Brixham Dartmouth Kingsbridge and Salcombe to name but a few. It is located in Staverton and is a real hideaway location if you want to be near the coast but away from the crowds. The nearby quirky town of Totnes famous for its independent shopping is only 3 miles away. The cottages are very popular with walkers and there are some lovely walks that you can do from our cottages including an enchanting walk along the river Dart. There are two great pubs/eateries in walking distance of our cottages one situated in Staverton a mile away and the other in Broadhempston which is the next village along. Nearby activities include horse riding (we have a riding school next door), adventure parks, sailing, golf (we can offer free rounds of golf at Dinnaton near Ivybridge 15 minutes away), steam trains (there is a station in Staverton), boat trips, animal farms, water park, beautiful beaches, walking on the moors and fabulous restaurants to name a few. Our luxury cottages provide a secure fenced garden or courtyard, contemporary furnishings, bedding (Egyptian Cotton) and towels, flat screen T.V's, DVD players, free WIFI, cots, sterilisers, high chairs and stair gates are also available. All of the accommodation has full central heating which is powered by a recently installed Biomass boiler with some of the cottages having additional wood burners. Bass Cottage was converted from an agricultural building built circa 1650 it is set in a private cobbled courtyard over looked by large mullioned windows with a thatched roof and cob walls. Within this courtyard is a Canadian hot tub in a cedar shingled bath house which is for the sole use of the occupants of the cottage. As you enter through the stable door there is a hallway with a beautiful galleried landing above. On the left is a well equipped kitchen with a pine table and chairs for six persons. There is a large living room with leather sofas, flat screen TV, DVD player and a log burner. There is a twin room also situated on the ground floor with a shower room. On the first floor is a further twin room, a family bathroom and a master bedroom with ensuite. Bass Court has a private terrace and a garden to the west side of the cottage, which overlooks the countryside beyond. There is a communal barbecue area however should you require your own barbecue then this can be provided. There is secure parking in the courtyard just outside the cottage and it is in close proximity to the walled garden, the play area and swimming pool.

Reviewed 7 Jul 2014

Lovely cottage in a fantastic setting. We stayed at the cottage for a week and were very happy indeed. The main bedroom was especially nice with a lovely 4 poster canopy bed. The cottage itsel… More

Response from the manager Hi there thanks for the review we are glad you liked the cottage and Estate. Guest reviews are invaluable to us as it allows us to improve the cottages and facilities on site. You should have informed us of the WIFI not working in the whole of the cottage this has now been resolved. We had WIFi installed every where even in the pool area which is free to all our guests. All our guests have a key to the leisure suite which they can use after 5 pm and before 9 am if the main door is locked. The key gives you access to the snooker table, darts board, table football pool and sauna I understand that you had one however we will now ensure it is fully explained in the guest information pack. Since your review we have sharpened the knives for future guests. We provide a dog pack which consists of a bowl, biscuit and dog blanket I was disappointed that this was not left in the cottage. This was an admin error (lack of communication between us and our house keeping staff) as it was not a direct booking. As for the board games this is the first that we have heard about no instructions so we will replace them. We hope you enjoyed your cream tea that we always provide upon arrival and we hope that you will consider returning in the future we do offer a loyalty discount to previous guests.
